Number of shots

Postby spook on Thu Jan 13, 2005 7:48 pm

This is my first post , after reading everybodys comments I was wondering how many shots everyone has taken on their camera?
I got my D70 at the begining of August 04 and my frame count is at 8957.

Mein gotten Himmel!!!! I thought I was a shocker with the continuous shooting when trying to get *just* the right eye contact or pose with animals... I think I'm up about the 4.5k mark after a few months... Now that I think about it, I spent a week in the blue mountains and took about 200 landscape or scenery shots, but I take that in a day at the Zoo!

Actually, that's prompted a thought (yeah, rare I know...)... Is there any ideas about expectancy on shutter mechanics etc??? Not worried at all, just thinking out loud...

Cheers,
Mudder
Edited... Oooops, rudely didn't welcome you to the best forum around matey!!! Cheers...

I'm on just over 2k :( I should shoot more.. and probably will this year..

I recall someone posted to dpreview claiming that their shutter mechanism had failed after some huge figure of shots, but I think they basically just had the camera shooting 24/7 attached to a PC, they weren't actually using the shots..

hi Mudder,
At around the 5k mark, i had a problem with the appeture step down lever (whatever that is) and it caused the shutter to not re-release properly, this has occured in a few d70 cams (on dpreview) but obviously it's not a major problem..I sent mine to the doctors (Maxwell) and all fixed up and working PERFECTLY! Now all I need to do is perfect my own abilities some more :)

Hate to say this but I had the camera set to take the same file numbers for quite some time. What I used to do was take the pics into PS and rename them. I have since wised up and have run about 1400 through in the past couple of months.

Glamy, Opanda Software's Iexif program lets you know the number of shutter actuations (it's an Exif reader application).

I've done just under 11k myself. In 10 months of ownership.

hmmm more info please! does it have to talk to the camera, or is the "real number" stored in every image you shoot?

i have exiftool under linux but doesnt seem to mention it. (page after page of exif data.)

i'm at about 5.5K after 10 months of ownership.... not much when you think of the time... but i take everything on manual, so it takes a little bit longer per shot (well.. that's my excuse) :)

Strewth! I'm being caught by the next ice age at 2, 830 in six months - shoot for quality not for speed. Or at least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Off to Spain & Morocco in April might lift my average then.............most definately!

I think I'm still stuck in the film era, I've had my camera for five months and I'm still at 576. I'm getting better though, on my last outing (last tuesday) I took 90 shots.

6000 since the very end of November. No known problems so far.

I tend to shoot many of the same subject with slight changes. However, I find it easy to shoot a hundred or more of the same subject sometimes, ie my Dads radio controll boat, or an oil burner.

G'day Gerard,
It's a setting in the "tools" part of the samera settings, the one with the spanner I think...
