New Toy’s

Postby Raydar on Fri Aug 13, 2004 3:55 pm

I thought it mite be good to start a thread on new accessories people buy & like or dislike for others to read up on so they can go out with confidence knowing they will buy something that is value for money or not
Today I picked up a 50 mm 1.8, I have been looking on Ebay & such but today I bit the bullet & bought a new one :?
All I can say is, it’s an awesome lens.
For the stuff I do, it’ll stay on the cam 80% of the time.
One very happy camper!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Cheers

Just posted about that lens on your other post. Great lens for the money, mine lives on the camera all the time at the moment, I was able to take outside shots at 6.30pm last night (with the lens wide open). I believe that lens is a best buy for any Nikon owner.

Absolutely agree with you both there. It's an amazing lens. It can turn night into day. I'm still exploring new ways to amaze myself with this lens.

Well, at 1.4, it's bloody fast. I bought it because I do a lot of shooting in poorly lit bars, but I almost think it's too fast. Certainly, it gives me far greater flexibility in low light situations than I was expecting it would, although part of that is also due to the high ISOs available on the D70.

I noticed that today with the 1.8
I had the camera getting up me with the HIGH warning a few times.
I was thinking coming home that a grad filter mite help out in such situations.
You think??????? :?

I have an old series-E 50mm/1.8 that's still superbly sharp (it's MF, and on the D70 there's no metering). I reckon they should be priced three times what they currently are, and given a gold ring around the front to gain more street cred. :)

Thanks Glen :D

Totally agree onyx; you would think you would have to pay more money for the lens, considering the quality of the images & the speed of the thing.
One thing I’ve always said to people when looking for lenses, once you get around the f2.5 region, expect to start paying big bucks.

Not so in this case ha :?
