Picture of the Week June 27, 2006This week I've chosen Gerard's aerial self portrait with a stunning backdrop of the sea/land. This oozes a sense of fun, fear and photography all wrapped up together. The fisheye certainly has its merits and we've recently seen some stunning results with it from various other members:
Congrats Gerard!! Original thread can be found here Geoff

Great Shot Gerard, and great choice Geoff. I knew you were heading for the wide blue yonder on Monday with your new D2X and you should be very pleased with the results (depth of field is pretty impressive......)

Fantastic shot, you certainly look like you're having fun. Congrats on yet another POW, I recall you've had another aerial shot previously.
BTW, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, Bradford Insulation Does the name Pavlov ring a bell?
A nice selection and very different. Well done Glamy.

Gerard, when i seen this shot it was a stunning moment, i loved it and thought you are gamer than me but hey the shots is a pearler, great in every way and a well deserved POTW, i like it has caught the wings on the pitts, amazing shot.

Wow I missed this one, it really is a unique perspective on the world, and looks like you are having a great time up there, is it fairly hard to take photos during complex maneuvers?
Congrats on the POTW and well done Geoff, thanks for bringing this shot to my attention.
Congratulations Gerard on this terrific image.
A caption for the shot, if I could be so presumptious, might be the opening lines of Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee's stirring poem "High Flight": "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings" This shot sums up everything that's wondrous about flight and the look on your face says it all. Great work. Nice work Gerard. Your left side rear wing (as we look at it) is pointing to where we live!

Cool pic!!!
I love the colors, and the clarity of the detail at ground level. Shows a wonderful experience, in the facial expression. I look forward to that kind of experience someday!
good choice on POTW.
put the fisheye to good use. Well done Steve check out my image gallery @

Thank you Geoff for selecting this shot. It is a very pleasant surprise and it makes my day .
Thank you all for the comments. I sure did have a great time. The scenery is one of the most beautiful, the weather was beautiful and we really were up there like birds. It is really a thrilling experience, the more I go the more I appreciate the feeling. I had bought the fisheye especially for this purpose and it turned out to be a very good choice. I use it more than my 12-24. Cheers, Gerard
Congrats Gerard and well deserved choice....it's a great perspective and also a pic that will becherished in your family for a long time.
If you can just imagine generations later and those viewing the pic and what they of you as a fun loving adventerous person. regards, Paul
