E.O.I 30/06/06 Night Shoot

Hey there,
I'll be up in Canberra and while I have a pretty booked schedule I have managed to get Friday night (the 30th of June) from 5pm onwards off to do some night photography around Canberra. I've contacted Craig (Willigan) and will hopefully be meeting up with him (I'll be in Civic with no transport). But I was wondering if any Canberra members might be free that night ? Or if they aren't do they have any particular suggestions for night photography (I've lived in Canberra before so it doesn't have to be Cheesy Tourist stuff).

So if you think you'll be free or have some suggestions please post!

The overlook of the city at night might be good if weather suits or reflection of the lights on the lake

my thoughts are:

touristy stuff isn't that bad, some buildings and the bridges are illuminated at night. (around the lake etc)
Another thought is painting with light if you have something like a
2.5 million candle power spotlight. (again around the lake would be great)
What is it YOU would like to fotograph ?

Either way, have a tripod, beanie, scarf and gloves
Please give me a reminder next week, I might be in it and I also have transport.

I've heard from Daniel_r and he's keen as well, I'll have a think about a few ideas (possible mount ainsle, the lake, and maybe something else cool, like the museums/ war memorial ...

Anyways I don't have a 2.5 Million Candle torch but I want one so it might be a good excuse to get one... Will definitely be bring my cold weather gear.

I see they've changed the lighting on the lake recently, could be a temporary thing, but it does appear that they've got some blue and gold gels on shining on the Carillon now. Perhaps the National Library / National Museum by night as well?

Craig, what time are you looking at - after 5? Maybe we could do some late dusk stuff and catch a bit of blue glow hour.

Then maybe go to a cafe/restaurant to warm up after?

I'll be available from 5pm on Friday we are staying at the Crown Plaza, Library / Museum sound good (from memory they are usually light up nicely. I'm very flexible though just happy to spent some time with other photog, cafe / resturant sounds like a good idea too I'm sure I'll be feeling the cold a bit.

Anyone still interested ? Daniel will be on his way back from Sydney so probably can't make it, or won't be rocking up till late. If no one's keen that's cool just wanted to check.

I would be there, but I am home in QLD for uni break.

Some places that I have enjoyed photographing by night are:
- Mt Ainslie, overlooks most of Canberra - will most likely be cold this time of year though.

- Old Parliament House gardens. These close at 9pm i believe, but up till then I enjoyed wandering through with a camera (and tripod ).

- War Memorial. You can't get in at all, but the outside of the building was interesting. Also, shooting through the gates into the eternal flame was interesting, and yielded some good results. Quite an eery feeling by night.

Would be keen, but not in Canberra Are you there all weekend, Craig? I'm trying to get something, ANYTHING organised for the weekend in Sydney.

The weather and light weren't great so I didn't end up taking my shots at all, and sorry Des I was up there all weekend. This weekend was disappointing from a photo taking side, but we visited the National Portrait Gallery in the Old Parliment House, there was some great great photos and paintings, beautiful!
