Supplier of generic batteries for 30D?

Postby moz on Wed Jun 21, 2006 8:30 pm

I'm looking for a couple of new batteries for my 30D and would like suggestions for suppliers of generic batteries, since Birdy doesn't advertise them. Ebay has lots for ~25/pair, has anyone tried them?

thanks

I use the ebay batteries in my 300D. I believe they are the same battery?

I have no problems, they don't always last as long as the real thing, but at $25, just buy two. :)

Sorry, PowerInNumbers spammed me so I no longer buy from them. Perhaps in a year or so if they haven't done it again I'll see what they're like then.

I hesitate to advertise or introduce 3rd party battery for DSLR.

Understandable, but still vaguely disappointing... such is life.

G'day,

These guys seem to get very positive feedback from what I've seen on other forums... Worth a try, I was going to get a couple...

I've ended up with the slightly more expensive until you count free postage (with a lens I ordered) from http://www.qualitycamera.com.au

When I saw 4x rechargeable 2600mah AAs for sale for $12, I hesitated and looked at the country of origin.

It was China, I put it down... I'm only going to get the rechargeable AAs made in Japan like the Energizers or other brands...

I was about to suggest quality camera - good service.

I have many BP511s for my 20D and Powershot G2. Not deliberately ... but a few of the 511s I bought off eBay don't work in the 20D (but do in the G2).

I got two from quality camera and one didn't work in the 20D - he sent me a replacement straight away. Great service. Both still work.

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

I found this guy on eBay selling 'genuine' batteries, but there is evidence to suggest that they're fake.
I have e-mailed him and he is adament they are genuine.

I am after a generic battery for a 350D (NB-2LH).
The Merkury battery from http://www.qualitycamera.com.au is 1000mAh, whereas the OEM is ~720mAh.
I take this is a good thing, ie. if they are actually 1000mAh.

I expect they are, within the 10% tolerance that most batteries seem to have. I've just bought a couple of BP511A-equiv ones and I'll let you know how they go since I'll be using them fairly hard for the next few days.

OK, the Merkury batteries from QualityCamera.com.au seem to work fine. I only took ~800 photos over the weekend so I didn't need to recharge the battery I used. So the three spares were just spare :) Since then it has run flat, capacity seems to be very similar to the 511A that came with my 30D.

The contrast with the "pro" videographer at the track was dramatic - not only did he run out of tape, he also ran out of batteries. This when we were only faffing about because the weather was awful. So me running about with ~1000 shots in memory cards plus another ~2000 in the PHD plus batteries to take all those was just over the top.

I bought an extra battery of Ebay. Everything ( including packaging ) looks the exact same as the original, except one is made in Japan and one in china or Korea. Can't remember which.

When you place the 2 side by side they look identical, case etc. Except for the Made In.....

The Ebay battery doesn't last as long. But good for a spare.

Cheers

Non-genuine Canon batteries?

Postby zafra52 on Thu Jul 06, 2006 5:41 pm

Are the non-genuine Cannon bateries being sold at http://www.powerinnumbers.com.au or http://www.sterlingtek.com rechargeable? I read somewhere in the 30D manual that any compatible battery that is not a BP-511A will yield a 75% capacity. I guess if the compatible batteries are rechargeable even running at 75% capacity are good value compared to the Inca Canon BP-511 ($49.95) or the genuine C.D. CANON BP511A BATTERY 1800mAH (($29.00) you paid elswhere.

Manuel, yes they are and after using them for over a year now, I can tell you that there is no difference - I get the same number of shots out of them as the genuine but I do have the battery grip, so it runs two at a time..

Check out http://www.qualitycamera.com.au/. I've bought several batteries for my 30D and 350D and they work great. The delivery is fast and the service is good.

I found this guy on eBay (http://stores.ebay.com.au/Maxi-Digital_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZQ2d999QQftidZ2QQtZkm).

NB-2LH replacement is 1200mAh for $13.
BP-511A replacement is 1800mAh for $13.
He also has Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, etc...
You can buy as many as you want and all you will pay is $6 regular postage or $8 express.

I asked a couple of buyers, and they seemed to be happy with the performance.

I saw these exact same batteries at an internet 'shop' for about $35 each.

Thanks for that link, I'll definitely be giving this fella a go... for $25.95 I can't go wrong.
