Thanks everyone for the comments - Norway certainly is a great place to take a camera, and Ålesund is one of the picturesque highlights.

zafra52 - this was actually taken with the 18-55 kit lens, which has been copping it recently in the Corral... Although the shot has been sharpened in PP.

I guess what is happening is that people tend to specialise in portraits, close-ups, etc. and eventually develop familiarity and a preference for a particular lense. From a technical point of view, there are times when I don't know if a photograph is good because the camera and lense is; or because it has been hugely improved with Photoshop or some other software. From the artistic perspective, it can be argued that some times a picture is good regardless of the equipment.

I'm also curious because I recently bought a Canon D30 (my previous SLR was an old Russian film camera) with the kit lense and I am getting use to it. I cannot help comparing the pictures that I am getting with it and what other memmbers are producing, although I lack the their knowledge and resources.

Having said all this, I still think your picture is very good in composition, framing, depth of field, and colour, so again well done!
