Help with printing please.

Postby W00DY on Sat Jul 15, 2006 6:41 pm

Hi Guys,

I am not sure what I am doing wrong so would appreciate some help.

I am trying to print some images as 6x4. I have added a border and a title at the bottom and resized the image. The image dimensions are as follows:

Dimensions
Width - 3000 pixels
Height - 2000 pixels

Size
Width - 6 inches
Height - 4 inches
Resolution - 500 pixels/inch

I am sure there are better ways of doing what I did to get the above dimensions but I "think" that those settings should give me a perfect borderless 6x4 print.

What is happening though is the photo is printing to large. The print gets cut off at the top and right hand side and also on the bottom and left hand side but not as much.

I am not sure if this is a printer setting error or a photoshop setting error (I also tried to print using NC but same thing, which makes me think it could be the image settings?)

Can anyone please help by explaining what I need to do to resize an image to print as 6x4.

Cheers.

Canon Pixma IP8500

Yes PSCS

Just using the print function in Photoshop

Not exactly sure but the colour seem ok, just the size.

I think I worked it out. There was a setting in the bordless print section with a slider which I needed to move to the left, can't remeber the actual filed name as the printer is at Ricks place.

Does it matter if the resolution is set at 500dpi? I think 300 is good enough but does 500 make a negative impact at all?

Cheers.

At 6" x 4" 240 is more than enough! Do you get a print preview before printing and does it show the problem you are having?

Yes i was using print preview and it was cutting the photo off in the preview as well. That is until I moved this slider which fixed that issue.

I guess my main question now is how do you get a image from the D70 to the correct size for a 6x4 print?

At 500dpi I was able to have the dimensions 3000 x 2000 so not to much cropping (once a border and title were added.

If you are using Photoshop....IMAGE/IMAGE SIZE...change the cm units to inches and change the longest side to 6. The short side will automatically change to 3.99 inch

On my Epson 2400 when I click the checkbox for a borderless print the system automatically oversizes the print and you loose a little around the edges. This is in the epson guide. Maybe Canon is the same.

Hope this helps

I don't know your printer, but are you sure it can print border-less? My stoopid Epson AIO can copy border-less, but not print. Riddle me that...

If I try to size the image up to a border-less print it will perfectly fit the sheet, with the edges overlaid by a white frame

Cheers
