Adelaide Sunset

I intended to go for a quick drive and snap some sunset pic's this evening. I ended up being gone for 4 hours! Oops!

Thought I'd join in on the pano's and quickly stitched this one up in PS:



And this one was from earlier in the night just after the sun went down (the actual sunset itself was nothing special and I found I got better shots in the following twilight):

I particularly like the second shot. I like the way you have used foreground in this image and the colour is great. Also it is an unusual approach to sunset/twilight shots -well done.

First one is a good image but I'm always distracted by the mix of sharpe and blury foreground.

I know what you mean about the moving trees on the left and the still trees on the right! The trees on the right were further down the hill thus fairly sheltered from the wind..I kept trying to take the pics in wind gaps but after about 18 secs into the 20 sec exposure the wind would pick up just to p155 me off!!

I love Mt Lofty - pity the greenies wouldn't let them cut a few trees down when they did it all up, even though they planted so many new trees!

Mind you, I think in this case, the trees give a bit of character.

Colours are great, maybe a little overexposed (in the city itself), but that's hard to get and still get detail everywhere else! Looks like it's stitched together pretty well too

I also like the second one - good use of zoom, and the out of focus tree in the foreground fills the top of the pic to create a bit of positioning. Anyone that knows Adelaide will know where that is

I like the pano and for a first (or so) attempt it's ok. There are two noticeable joins though but that's just because PS doesn't join panos very well. Also, the city is oxerexposed quite a bit, perhaps one or two stops too much. If you shot in NEF you might be able to reduce the overexposure and combine the images using layers, as i did in this shot of Sydney ( http://killakoala.smugmug.com/photos/9621300-M.jpg )

The moving tree issue is a problem that obviously cannot be overcome other than by using rope the tie the damn things still or perhaps going back there when it's not windy, if that's possible in Adelaide

I really like the second photo. your composition for this pic is excellent. However i feel that the bright sky at the very top is a bit overpowering compared to the skyline area of the image. But it's a great pic and i enjoyed look at it a few times.

Liam - I like both shots

Critique IMO - the first shot I actually like the city centre being brighter it smacks of the X-files. The tree(s) on the right, if given some motion blur in PS would balance the photo.

The second shot is sharp, well framed and printable

Sheepie - it wasn't Mt Lofty! There's too much haze from up there and I had to do a lot of PP to irradicate the haze as it was. The second shot was taken from the Kensington Rd lookout which is basically East of the city.

Xerebus - you're so damn close it's not funny! The first shot was taken on top of a hill in Rostrevor. It's a little known part of Morialta Conservation Park and can only be accessed easily from a secret spot! I used to live down the road and regularly hiked through the back parts of the park.

Oh and Chris! I agree..I boosted the exposure way up in PS cos I liked the spooky mood it created! The joins are crap cos I did them quickly by hand before going to bed (I'd been out for 4 hours and my bed was calling me!).....excuses, excuses!
