Family Picnic - Dobroyd Head/Tania Park, Jan 22, ATTENTION!

Postby birddog114 on Sat Jan 15, 2005 9:23 pm

HI All,
I and my family just came back after a long drive to the Dobroyd Head/Tania Park for a "recon" the pinic area, following are few points we may have to take into account for considering of switching to difference location:

- Parking is no problem.
- Tania park is a sport ground, it's not a pinic area.
- The park has no shelter, no pinic facilities.
- The only shelter we found are under small bush on the side of the cliff and not comfy with the heat/ sun or wet during the day. Or the toilet and small office in one ends for the cricket teams, and a playground for the children, hardly to set in 30 members +
- We took the walking track along the cliff and it's also restricted to few access,
- The two beaches down to the cliff are not easy accessible and danger.
- To set up a camp or a tent on a sport ground is prohibited.
The Dobroyd Head is only good for Sunrise workshop, it's a beautiful panorama, or a short visit to test your skill of pana or take few quick shots and go.
We have 30 members + some of their children, stay there for 6 hours during the day is not recommended.

So we have to switch to a new location:
- Bobbin Heads or _______________/
or please contribute your ideas and your thoughts with a new location.

I'm one for Bobbin Heads. I love that place - but would we need a meet before the meet in that case? Cos entry fee to national park is set per vehicle ($7/car IIRC), so if we can cram like sardines in a tuna can and carpool there, collectively we may save (or is it just me that's a cheapskate?)

It's a good spot for keen anglers, lots lawned areas for kids to run around safely, convenience shop good for ice creams, fish & chips or various junk food, and there's an animal sactuary in there that might challenge those long lensers...(it's got ducks too)

I am sure that if Glen was in town he would be the first to suggest a mini truck for everyone to get in

Are we heading for Bobbin Heads next Saturday 22/01/05?

Heaps of pinic facilities, as BBQ, shelters, sceneries, fishing, boat hiring etc...
Shooting subjects: Birds, Boats, Water, etc...

For members coming from North:
On Pacific Hwy heading South: turn left at the light into Bobbin Head Road,

For members comiing from South
On Pacific Hwy heading North: turn right at the light into Bobbin Head Road

Drive thru North Turramurra, then entry into Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park gate (Entry fees is around $7.00), keep driving until you reach the bottom of the hill and there're many pinic sites at the bottom.

Again, I'll try to be there around 9:00 - 10:00 am.
My mobile phone is 0416 218 618

I've found this interesting web site and perhaps we will do some similar things on the day or we will pick up from them the ideas where to go for the next workshop.

Ride offered from Hurstville/St George area

Postby sheepie on Sun Jan 16, 2005 7:46 am

Hi all - looks like it will be just me next weekend, so anyone looking for a ride, I already have the National Parks sticker for the car (no entry fee).

I can take three plus gear comfortably.

PM me if interested.

As this Pinic day, we might turn it it a freelance outdoor workshop for all members who wish to join the pinic day. I have the following schedule to

09:00 - 10:00 gathering and coffee, tea BYO
10:00 - 12:00 Workshop around the area
12:00 - 01:00 Lunch/ BYO
01:00 - 02:00 Workshop

I have to leave at 2:00PM
Members who remain can follow with the workshop until end of the day.
In this pinic day, I 'll have all my gears for evaluation, testing, looking for lust.

Your thoughts please!

I'd love to sheepie, but you're in the south and I'm out west... :(

Anyone in the Hills or west/inner west who have a free car space - mind if I pop round to your place to park my ride and hop in with you? Splitting the cost of entry = everybody wins.

Hey Woody,
Manly to Bobbin Head is just few clicks away! We like to stick with previously location but there's no facilities for all of us to play all day, especially with the family and small children.
Hope you can pop in and have a chat at Bobbin Head.

No worries Birdy.

We would have only been able to pop in for about 30min anyway, we have a full day planned on Saturday :?

Will be making it to a mini meet after we get back from QLD (will even get my Dad to one after they get back from tassie)...

Anyone want a lift, i live in North Ryde so if you want to drop off your car at my place or be picked up from nearby, perhaps Epping railway station then PM me, sooner rather than later.

Cheers.
Steve.

Stubbsy is v confused about directions :(

Travelmate tells me to come down the Sydney/Newcastle freeway & turn off at Cowan then follow the Pacific highway and Whereis tells me to stay on the freeway to Brooklyn then turn off onto the Pacific hwy when I just put Bobbin Head as the destination & tells me to stay on all the way to Wahroongah if I put Ku-Ring-Gai Chase rd Bobbin Head as the destination.

Clever - 3 ways to skin the same cat. Can anyone offer suggestions on which of the three is best.

Pacific HWY until you reach Wahroongah/ Sydney exit, Pacific Hwy again until you see the set of light at the T intersection of Pacific Hwy Bobbin Head Rd and turn left into it. Map 223 A16 Gregory

Thanks birddog

Weird thing is BEFORE I looked at any maps that's the way I would have gone since I've seen the Bobbion Head turn (over a little bridge to the left as best as I can recall) a million times when driving from Newcastle to Sydney. Sometimes there's such a thing as too much use of the internet :?

Bring lots of extra sinkers and hooks too - there are A LOT of rocks to get your line caught on!! Plus, you're more likely to catch squid than fish from my past experience in that place.

Stubssy, three equally valid ways to get there, as there are three entrances to the park. Better go the long way and follow us Sydneysiders else you risk getting lost. ;)
