how to attached the 5th battery to SB 800Does anyone knows how to attach the 5th battery to the SB 800?
Thanks. Arthur
yeosca,
Use lot of pressure from your hand to slide its door off, it won't break! cos it's NIKON Just try little bit hard on it and it'll come off, then attach thefifth chamber on. Birddog114

Arthur, the instructions in the manual actually work for this!
You open the battery cover, and take it past 90 degrees. I found that if you make a funny face and hope for the best, it helps. But, hooray, the cover just kinda pops off. Retain for future possible use. Then you stick battery #5 in the fifth battery holder (supplied) and is attaches onto where the cover came from. You should be OK, if not, send me a pm and I could give you a call. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Tok me about 8-9 battery changes to notice this, but if you look on the side of the 5th battery chamber, and the rear side of the battery compartment about 2/3 up from the base, there is a little mark that matches up. Then just slide the chamber up.

where do you get that Onyx? I'd like to read some info on it if there is a link cheers, Craig
Craig, Onyx saw my SD-8A battery pack, it's super fast recycling! can be use on any SB-24,25,26,28,80, 600, 800. Perfect for continuosly shooting, I shoot with my D2h 16fps no problem! Nikon discontinued them as far as I known, I got it few months ago and was around $200.00 Aussie. Birddog114

Perhaps old stock! I checked with Maxwell and NPA same as few main source from HKG. No new stock from B&H or Adorama. The SD-8 unit has two wires, one goes to the SB-800 and other connects to the Sync terminal on the camera body. One thing to remember the SD-8 will work on the SB-800 and D2h/ D100/ F100/ F5/ F6 with sync cable to control. The SD-8 can't work with sync cable on the D70 (No Sync connector) and it only works thru the SB 800. Last edited by birddog114 on Tue Jan 18, 2005 11:49 am, edited 1 time in total.

What if you had an AS15 addaptor on the D70 hotshoe? Craig
Then it'll works with Sync.
The D70 lacks of Sync terminal, I believe Nikon thinks the D70Users won't use this camera for Pro works. Birddog114

That what's their intention to produce the D70 for! and they're right for their research and marketing of the D70 in difference market and segment, even no proposal for a optional of battery grip. Look at the D100/ D2h/ D1/h/x all have sync terminal If you mount the AS15 on the hot shoe then you need to have the flash off the camera as slave from the master built in flash, I don't know how does people can connect the SB-800 direct to the camera though. Note: Does not provide high-voltage sync protection, and is not recommended for flash units that have more than 6v. I'm not sure this unit will work with the D70 flash components, I tried my D70 and use the flash with SD-8 solely/ No Sync. It works great with the recycling time, none on Sync. Birddog114

I don’t need a sync to my studio strobe as I use the SB800 on camera pointed at the ceiling and set to 1/128th power output. The SB-800 fires the strobe.
With the Magneflash I use the same setup. Mount the camera on the Manfrotto macro flash setup and put the Magneflash on the left or right hand side. Mount the SB800 on the camera and connect a sync cable between the SB800 and the Magneflash. I can then use the SB800 as the trigger only (pointed up) or bring it down to -7 and use along with the Magneflash. Chris Chris
