Sigma Lenses for Minolta

I cracked the dirts yesterday and decided to buy (order) three half decent Sigma lenses for my Minolta 5D.
24-70 EX DG Macro
70-200 EX DG, apparently the new Macro version not made in Minolta mount.
and lastly the 50-500 Bigma.

I went to my little stash hole and off to the bank to deposited the money.
I'm starting to get excited about now, until I'm told that Sigma don't make the 24-70 and 70-200 in Minolta mount.
The retail outlet tried a few times to clarify this with whom ever at crkennedy and the answer is the same.
I know this is rubbish as those lenses are all over the net in Minolta mounts.


Can anybody recommend a place to try and purchase these lenses that is local to Melbourne.

Footnote: Maybe I should ditch the Minolta and stick with the Canon 20D.

I don’t know if this is correct but as Minolta is no longer made I would assume that Sigma would discontinue the mount.

Having said that, the Minolta mount does continue on as Sony!!

I would stick with Canon

Now that sony have entered the market with their Rebadged DSLR. They are also supossed to be introducing a range of lenese for it that are backward compatable with the KM mount.

However IMHO and probably most members here HO - Go Canon

Stick with the Canon, If you ever change your mind at a later date there would be a bigger market to sell in.

I've dug the Canon out to try and get used to it again as the Minolta has been the preferred camera.
I know the Canon is a good camera but I really fell in love with the little Minolta, it just clicked..
I'll buy one good piece of glass (for the Canon) and see how I go.

Thanks for that, I've already been there in my search for lenses.
Teds have a 28-75 (A little short on the wide end) for $500 on the web page but bugger me,
the local shop (Frankston) hasn't got it listed.
They said they would ring back, still waiting and waiting and.

After being very clear in asking about lenses for the Minolta/Sony mount the salesman then asked me if that was body only or with kit lens.
I tell ya, a rant is coming on.

Sounds like Olympus arnt the only ones who dont know what they're doing. Good Luck - Probably agree about resale value re canon, but sometimes the strange mounts keep thier value too, mainly probably cause the Aust importers like to completely rip the user

UPDATE:

Salesman at Teds did ring back eventually (all apologetic) and low and behold they actually had one in stock.
How much I ask, $399 he replied.
I'll be down as quick as a flash, at that price for a Minolta 28-75 2.8, it was a bargain.
That was $100 cheaper than what they had advertised on their main web page.

Marked down from a list of $799 to $499 and I got it for $399..

Now I am happy

First few shots show it is sharp at 2.8 but will have fun tomorrow testing it out properly PS :I know this started out as a hunt for Sigma glass for the Minolta but I'm just as happy to have Minolta glass.
