Camera Gear Insurance

Postby marcotrov on Sun Aug 13, 2006 12:40 pm

Just realised that i have accumulated quite a bit of expensive gear, particularly since getting my new equipment -D200, 70-200VR, 10.5 Fisheye (yet to arrive),another SB800 etc.
So far:
D200
D70
80-400VR
70-200VR
150 Sigma Macro
12-24 F/4 Nikon
10.5 F/2.8 Nikon
55 Micro Nikkor Ai-s
18-70 kit lens
35-70 F/2.8 Nikon
2x SB800
1x SB600
1x SB80DX
Cords,diffusers,stands,accessories etc,etc
Holy Dooly, didn't realise what lust can do to you
Anyone suggest, recommend insurance or is it best through household insurance? Is there a process that may be best followed? Do you need travel cover as well or is it covered in general insurance on the items?
Cause right now I have none, except for household insurance.

cheers

Im very interested in this as well.

Recently I just hear from a friend of mine that she got her house borken in and robbed, nobody was home/hurt, but she lost her jewellery, laptop and precious files inside...

Im now very afraid that this could happen to me with my gears and laptop, since no jewellery of any kind can be found in my room, but sure there are expensive glasses around...

I'd red your household insurance cover carefully - you may not even be covered there. You might need to make individual declarations on expensive items to your insurance company to get these covered.

Has anyone tried the nikonians.com insurance, 'Niksecure'??

I am looking at/for worldwide policies so that I am covered here, Aus, and during any travel.... any suggestions, anyone?

What do those who travel a lot (ie overseas), do? Do you get separate, short-term insurance for each trip?
