I want to look like ...A pro ?
No ... that's not the reason: I have lots of camera bodies here, but all of mine are fully functional and operational. But, I do have a project - that will be documented for a future version of Chimp - that needs a dead SLR camera body, so if anyone has one that they're no longer in need of, please feel free to respond to this thread or to send me a PM g.

I have a Nikon FG, which you are welcome to. I've been told it's only good as a paperweight, but haven't actually brought myself to that yet. We had many wonderful years together and I am still mourning the loss (although my grief was somewhat assuaged by my new F100). Leon,
no great hurry ... Phillip, How dismantled? That may still be useful .. Lyn, Thanx, yes, that would be perfect, and I suspect you know what I'm going to be doing with this ... g.

Yes, I guess you could say I've "seen the light" ....

Gary,
I've got a Nikon EM with motor drive, that is fully functional and in good cosmetic condition. However, the light-seal foam has liquidified and gooed up the edges of the mirror. Getting it cleaned would cost more than the camera is worth. You can have it if you want. Cheers Steffen. lust for comfort suffocates the soul
Phillip,
They are seriosuly dismantled. Dare one ask why? Mind you, the Pentax still has its mirror box intact. Steffen, Yes please, that would be great. g.

Gary,
Sometime ago when I got interested in collecting old cameras I decided to have a go at fixing non operational cameras bought cheaply from Ebay. A dismall failure. __________

I did manage to keep some intact, some of them I even managed to get them to work
The Minolta has provided a few springs, baseplate ect. for other cameras and will definitely never get put back together. __________

Thanks Glen, they look impressive in the cabinet, but the dearest one there is the Butcher Klimax made in 1910 (top shelf leftmost) and that was US$50.00

You look like you've got a few TLR's there.
Any of them work? Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Not reliably, the two voightlanders are ok but they're very basic. The Rolleicord has shutter problems and the altiflex seems to work but not sure of accuracy of shutter speeds

This one looks like Mark Latham had a go at dismantling it...
Hmmm, now what would you be wanting a non-functioning camera body for Gary? Could you please let me know when you're thinking about commencing your little project. I have a few non functioning flashes and a dead Minolta body handy.
Andrew
Non-functioning flashes? What's the issue with those?
I've got an old Sunpack here that works, but I'm almost thinking in terms of buying a couple of disposable cameras - with flashes - for this project. I can't think of a better/cheaper source of a working flash unit. I'm thinking of this as a weekend project in a week or two ... g.

Batteries leaked after I left them in there too long Might be useful for other purposes though. I've also got a few old cheapies lying around that I bought when I was a kid just getting into photography.
Cool. Keep me posted please Andrew
Hi Gary,
If you get a chance have a look for a dead or dying Nikon F-501 ... it is great for what you have in mind as there are some large cavities that you can play with in putting it together. Another advantage with this camera is that it already has a battery pack in the base so all you have to do is take wires from the pack to your electronics! Disposable flash units will work in this project however remember that they only require one AA battery to make them happen and the sync voltage is very high (not good if you are going to connect your new device to a digital device). Hope this is a help! Ants
Ants,
Very useful information, and especially the reminder about the synch voltage. Your comments regarding the battery compartment in the 501 are noted as well. The EM is a significantly smally body, but a single AA will work there. It'll certainly be an interesting exercise. g.
