Dumping gear

Postby birddog114 on Thu Jan 20, 2005 8:53 am

On http://www.tradingpost.com.au . I saw lot of Canon users dump their gears (Canon 300D, 1D etc..) but hardly see any D70 User with the used D70.
Your thoughts please

Perhaps because of the 20D - the D70 still has not been upgraded.

MAybe a ratio thing,

seems as there may be a lot more canon useres than Nikon, could be wrong. Price seems to be a big consideration for most average consumers, in the case of 300d.

I think the 20d would also have a impact as well.

I'm still glad I went the D70 came sooo close to the Canon, this website and already owning a F65 with a 70-300G made me spend the extra.Oh and Birddog looking after me as well.

He's just jealous because Nikon doesn't get used much in sports photography so he has to make derogatory comments which he can't back up with any facts.

There always seems to be more Canon gear on the trading post but I'd guess that there is more of it around so more will be bought and sold.

It is a problematic comparison. The D70 probably wouldn't be around if it weren't for the D70.

Plus it seems that there are more Canon users around than Nikon owners, plus there is the whole, it doesn't matter what the camera, its the eyes behind it...blah blah (I get a little tired of that debate, I mean of course it isn't the camera, someone has to be there to push the friggin button!)

Anyhoo, it's problematic, and I can think of several reasons to get rid of the 300d (20d, want full sensor etc), I can't think of any reasons to get rid of D70-well maybe if it killed my father-but otherwise...

I was really thinking about Canon as well, mostly for the full size sensor in the higher end models, not that it is an option now, but one day with high end lenses, the full size sensor may be an issue, which is an avenue that Nikon isn't taking at the moment.

Correct petal.

There are (in my view) three things about which we can happily make derogatory remarks for no good reason, and almost get away with it....

1. Canon cameras (on this site, anyway. We are a Nikon site, hello!)
2. Ex-wives (possibly except for Chris's collection)
3. The French.

Just for the record, I have two Canon cameras, the Epoca 35mm which I would give 10/10, and the G3 digital which is fantastic but the lag got to me, and I have the sensational Canon i965 printer.

:)

This might get me in trouble ... but ... I've used both Nikon and Canon gear. They both supply top end equipment. After using both I personally prefer Nikon, so that's what I use.

Why are there so many canon professionals in sports? I have no idea. I certainly wouldn't draw the conclusion that it is because Canon gear is better for sports. That would be like saying Nike must be the best sports shoe because they are the most popular one, or that McDonalds makes the best hamburger because they sell more than anyone else.

Marketing is a wonderful thing..... but Canon do make good gear - just not my preference.

Cheers,
Craig

Come on guys leave my ex-wives alone - whoops must remember to dust their heads

I had a Canon camera once (film) and could not get a decent pic out of it (me?) so sold it to a friend with great trepidation - his first set of pics were fantastic which proved to me that the camera was good and I was crap.
