Was talking to...

Postby johndec on Tue Aug 29, 2006 9:19 pm

Was talking to Birdy today and it appears that he is having trouble logging on to this site. Perhaps the mods should check their access settings.

The best approach would be for him to call Gary I would suspect. If something's up that is.

I would imagine that now a Mod (you) is aware of it, it should be an easy fix. No need to bother Gary. Simple coding issue?

John we dont have any coding or access level at all. All a mod can do is delete or move posts or check IP addresses. This is the second time today I heard of problems, I asked Gary and the only one he knows of is Loz.

Ps What exactly is the problem? Can't log on?

I had some trouble today logging in from my work computer. Asked me for user name and password. HNFI what my password is.
(usually logs in automatically). Everything OK when I got home and logged in from there.

Only problem is that I have broadband at work and dial up from home. :x

Shakey,

I had exactly the same issue myself this morning. I suspect that something had been reset at the server end, because for me it actually happenned twice.

Ijust cleared my cookies, and all has been fine since then.

I had a similar experience today, after I put in my user name and password it went in ok but when I clicked on "New posts since your last visit (67) " it went on to another page asking me for the password again and then told me there was no new posts, even though there was.
It's happened a few times now.

John, as Glen rightly said - I can't do didly squat with who has access and who hasn't - good thing that too

Phillip.. I know that issue well.

As far as I can work out, that one has to do with the connection between the .net and .com sites.

I have this occasionally as well. Tip is to always go to either the .net or .com, and if u have problems clear your cookies, both have worked for me

So now that both Gary and Leigh are aware of the issue, I can safely assume that the problem will be rectified? For Birdy's sake..

Well, it's not the first thing on my list honestly John. I've got deadlines for other stuff, but I'll take a look at it soon enough and see what's happening.

Surely it would've been a hell of a lot easier for Birdy just to call Gary!? Nevermind I'm sure the problem will be resolved soon enough.

You're quite right Geoff. Im sure it's just a SNAFU. It's not like this forum would ever consider banning their Patron so it must be an error.

Well, that explains a few things.

That's not a site that resolves to the correct codebase at the moment - I'd actually need to see which codebase it's resolving to, in fact. The D70 domains are basically obsolete, and just retained for historical reasons.

Try using dslrusers, either .com or .net, and please let me know if you're still seeing those issues.

In the meantime, I'll go and see which codebase the obsolete domains are using. :)

Ok ... something strange happenning here.

First of all, you're still, in using a D70users domain, using one of the historical ones. FAr better to use the DSLRUSers domains. I'll be hinest and say I cannot even remember the last time I used one of the D70 logins, so nothing really surprises me in this regard.

I've just checked to see where the various sites resolve, and the I was surprised by a couple of things I saw. :)

I then went in and had a play using my normal ID, and I was able to confirm the error message that you're seeing from the pho script. What's unusual about that is that this is using the same codebase as the dslrusers.com site, and it's not reporting those errors.

So that's what I'm going to be looking at.

Most unusual.

For what it's worth, Macka & I often have login errors. We have two computers, and we both use each of them. Often when I log out of the .com site, it clears cookies from the .net site, leaving the .com account logged in.

We could fix this by a) only using one site or the other, or b) clearing cookies & cache. But if we did that we wouldn't be able to whinge at the coding monkeys (or should that be chimps?) :D
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!
