Mamiya ZDHas anyone got anything to say about this MF digital cam? 22MP, twice the size of a 1dsm2 sensor,645 lenses, nice viewfinder, etc etc.
I have been looking around the net and there isn't all that much documented. It has been delayed a lot from its first announcement. It seems great to me - the main problem is justifying the cost/finding the money! HB

Heath,
If you think that the Mamiya is expensive, wait until you see the cost of a Phase 1 back. Nice results though: Leigh has been doing some work with one over the last few weeks, and the results of that that we've seen have been delicious. g.

Yeah Gary
Perhaps renting is the smartest way with such technology. I guess it is just a bit of lust. - I WANT I WANT - A trial would be cool too. HB
L&P are the aus agents......

Yeah, though L&P are likely to try to screw you for every cent you have.
I'd probably get the Phase One over the Mamiya. An all in one on a medium format doesn't sit well with me, especially seeing as I know that it's unlikely to be built anywhere near as well as a Hasselblad 503. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Drool indeed. I'm going back to find that post by Leigh - rental costs!
EDIT- anyone finds it let me know - Leigh didn't you post rental prices of the company you work/worked for? HB
The price of the P30 seems to be about double that of the whole Mamiya camera. The P45 is even more expensive again.
This is very high end gear. Heath, The rental costs that Leigh posted were for the EOS1Ds kits that they rent out. They don't yet have MF digital gear available. g.

Thanks Gary.
I think that rental is the answer for the jobs where it is required, despite the high rental prices at places like L&P. I just like being able to use a camera more than just renting it to gauge the subtlties and use it to its full potential. The ZD is very reasonable at its price, but I wonder how much better it is than the D2x. They are two very different cams - one an all rounder that is speedy and the other more studio suited. At the end of the day does the average joe-blow even see the difference in quality at A4-A3, in a coffee table book guise? HB
Heath, I'd probably also look at the all in one by Hasselblad that, last I remember, uses an Imacon back I think...

Well I’ve just started walking down the medium format digital back road. I did evaluate the ZD, but I’d rather get a 645 and upgrade the back, then be stuck with upgrading the camera every 3 years.
Now I’m looking at a Leaf Aptus back for my Mamiya AFD. Sure it will set me back a little coin, but it should pay for itself. Andrew
Canon make photocopiers and stick lenses on them....
Heath,
Can you please check your email for me? Thanx. g.
