Just ordered a D2Xs from Poon at Hong Kong SuppliesHello all,
I am new to this forum and thought that I would supply some feedback on Hong Kong Supplies. Poon replies to emails very quickly and his EBay feedback is excellent, not too mention his prices. I have today ordered and paid for (via his Australian HSBC bank account): D2Xs body Nikkor 85mm f1.4 8GB CF Card Spare battery. The best price in Melbourne for this kit was just on $10000! Someone is making a nice margin somewhere, and it's not Poon. I will let you all know how long shipping takes and whether the lovely people at customs try to collect their pound of flesh (There is no duty or quota on camera's, only little Johnies GST) Clem PS I have a forum at http://www.ftcn.net which may be of interest to those of you who are also into Cinematographic photography i.e. filmmaking. D2Xs
Poon is all over EBay also! However I suspect that the prices are even lower in "Bargains" and I only have 48 posts to go! Clem
Yi-P,
He didn't. People are always able to buy directly through Poon, but the prices through the forum are cheaper than buying directly, so why a qualified member might buy directly is beyond my comprehension. Clem, Poon is well known and very highly regarded in these forums. He's an active member and supporter, and posted some images over the weekend. FYI, and as noted above, the prices through this forum are better than you can expect if you trade directly with him. I don't know what your exact deal was, but I can tell you that through our resources, for the kit that you purchased you would expect change from Au$6600. Everybody should note that the Pacific Peso is currently dropping, and I'm expecting to adjust some prices today. this means that some of our very finely balanced prices, such as our current specials on the D2Xs and D200, will be getting an upwards nudge. Regarding shipping, Poon is very good in this regard, and our members generally get to start playing with their toys three days after their payment has been recieved by Poon. g.

You'll find once you've become a full member here that Poon is the generous supplier of our bargains section. I've met him and you couldn't ask for a nicer bloke. You'll love the D2xs - I'm more than happy with my recently purchased D2x Peter

D2Xs / D3XI was going to hold off for the D3X which apparently "may" be released at an exhibition in Europe on September 25, however if you wait for anything IT related, you can end up buying nothing which is great way to save money, however it doesn't get the job done.
The D2Xs looks pretty good to me, from what I understand it has a Sony sensor (which Sony uses in some of their camera's, but they do not take full advantage of its capabilities) I love the idea of wireless networking (an option) with the D2X/s. You can keep shooting as the shots are wirelessly transferred to a MAC or Windoze computer. Once the file has been transferred and verified, it can then be automatically deleted from the CF card......amazing. The best price in Melbourne on the D2Xs (body only) was $6680ex from Camera Action Camera House, and this was after some haggling! Clem
Re: D2Xs / D3X
Congrats on the new camera! Sounds really good! Especially the wireless networking option! Did you buy it with that option? (It's an additional option you must buy right?). Is this exhibition Photokina? It'll be very interesting to see all the things released The local prices for camera equipment is quite high compared to overseas.
Re: D2Xs / D3X
No, I am yet to buy the wireless option as I do little studio work. Still, it's nice to know I can get it. I have though about having the laptop in the car and using the wireless that way however the 8GB CF card will suffice for now.
Congrats Clem on your new system BTW - prices in Europe are far in excess of what we pay in Oz

Clem, welcome to the forum, nice gear you are buying there too.
Good to have another member from Melbourne too - we'll be having a photographic meet very shortly, you are welcome to be there. There is a thread in the Melbourne section. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Some positive feedback relating to HK Supplies:
1. Poon is very quick to respond to queries regarding products and pricing, typically 1-2 hours. 2. I deposited cash (several thousand $$) into HK Supplies Australian HSBC account on Monday morning and Poon shipped the camera Tuesday afternoon. So far I can highly recommend HK Supplies. Clem
Clem, That is exactly how Poon is. On Monday evening he was able to advise me of pricing for some Benro tripods and ballheads. So far we've had two orders for these items, and both have, to my knowledge, already been prepared for shipping, if not actually on their way. A member ordered an 85mm f/1.4 over the weekend. It's currently in Melbourne awaiting cutoms clearance, and I expect that it will be delivered tomorrow. g.

Even better, I ordered a lens through digitalrev as Poon did not stock, and when it came to credit card authorisation, I just said I was a customer of Poon's and there was no problem after that

My D2Xs is now in Melbourne, and is scheduled for delivery today or tomorrow:
1. Ordered and paid cash Monday AM 2. Poon shipped Tuesday PM 3. In Melbourne Thursday AM 4. Delivery is imminent! Not much else to add, and to think that I was considering buying from Michael's or Ted's! Clem
Received the camera yesterday! So I paid AM on Monday and received the camera PM on Friday! What more can I say? Now to have a play.............
Hey guys,
Just thought Id bump this thread instead of creating a new one as its pritty similar. So anyway, I to am looking to buy a D2XS sometime in the next few weeks and Poons prices on ebay are very convincing. Poons price would work out to be about $5100 inc shipping, but there is also another 2 D2XS on there at the moment for $5699 that are already in Australia, although its been supplied from HK. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nikon-D2Xs-12-4M ... dZViewItem Ive bought a flash off Poon before and was more then impressed and happy with his service so thats not what I'm worried about spending 5k on something in HK. My main concerns is the warrenty factors and taxes. Will Poon label the item as a gift so I dont have to pay GST? I carnt remember exactly but I think he did that with my flash.. And if someone could explain to me the warrenty situation? Obviously its not an Australian one so it would be have to be sent back to HK if any problems occured... would that be at my expence? Another advantage with the ones already in Sydney is they have both said that if a warrently claim occurs, I return it to them and they pay shipping for it to be sent back. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Brett
brett,
You need to become a more active member of this forum. Seriously. The current price to qualified members, through Poon, for a D2Xs, is well under Au$4800. Delivered to your door. Warranty: the camera comes with Nikon's standard international warranty, which Maxwell don't like to honour. But, effective immediately (or near enough), Maxwell are no longer relevant when it comes to Nikon, with Nikon Australia assuming direct responsibility for Nikon products commencing next week And we have no idea at all as to what that will mean in terms of grey product, but it cannot really be any worse. GST: There are no guarantees that you will escape the payment of GST; this is always dependant upon customs, and we have no control over this. I always recommend that you factor this in to your calculations and budget for your purchase, because if you don't, and you get hit, you will be mightily pissed. That said, I have yet to see anything come in in the last few months where GST has been payable. It's a lottery, but your chances seem to be good. Oh yes, as I said, you need to become a qualified member. Please check the FAQ first, and then feel free to ask any questions that you may then have. g.

GST on ImportsRemember that GST paid on imports is no different to any other GST that you pay. This means that if you use the camera for work related purposed and are registered for GST, then you can simply deduct the GST you pay on the DX2s off your next BAS statement so it really doesn't matter how much customs charge you.
Thanks for the info gstark, thats cleared quite a few things up.
I've been a reader of these forums for a little while back when they were called D70users but never much of a poster. Looks like I'll have to start contributing a bit more! Thanks again, Brett
Brett,
I think you'll be surprised at how quickly, and how easily, you can rack the posts up. And don't overlook the various events that we have. The real issue about membership is community involvement. become an active participant, and the rest just happens. g.

I've been meaning to get along to one of them for a while. I was speaking to a photographer from this site at a Board Sports Expo last weekend whom also was a member on here (who I have forgotten the name of, so if that person reads this, say hello!) and got me interested in some of the events that are held.
Anyways, Thanks for the info! Brett

If they can get you one. They're in very short supply at the moment, which is why they don't appear on our pricelist at this time. When we can get them, they're $2020, including delivery to your door. g.
