HELP: dropped my lowpro bag from top of closet $#@!

my lowpro back pack with my d70, kits lens, 105 micro VR, and 50mm 1.8 fell from the top of my closet. heard a big bang. the uv filtyer on the kit lens was shattered, and there is a chip on outside of the kit lens. that was the lens on the camera. the other two lenses seem okay as far as looking goes. the camera looks oky, but not sure what impact was doen to the camera body from the fall. i mean the bag is pretty padded but this was a good spill, enough to shatter the uv filter on the lens.

what do u think of the likely hood of damage to the actual body or the lenses? also, if there is a chip on the outer part of the glass on the kits lens, will this alter my images greatly? (havent checked yet)

any insight on this sad incident would be great............

Luck is going to play a big part in this....

I for example fell forward with the d70 + kit lens into dirt whilst photographing some MTBing. The lens was covered in dirt and developed a distinct but slight wobble on the zoom end, but still worked perfectly.

i think you are going to need to run some tests, outside of any obvious signs of damage.

Of course the safe thing to do would be to send it in for a complete service, but that is $$$...

Mate, sounds really sad - even if all ends up working OK. I'm not a camera technician but the first thing I would be checking is if the lens functions (moves OK) and then can it autofocus. If that seems OK take a couple of test shots and see if they load up to your PC and look OK. This should give the camera a bit of a check. Then try your other lenses in a similar way. At the first sign of any problem I would get the camera checked - this may be an option to consider anyway. Good luck. Cheers, Mick

see if your house insurance covers accidental damage.

I always get it added as most of my stuff that has got damaged has been done in the home.

I have to ring them this week as i dropped my old eos and broke the zoom.
Hope they will just give store credit and then i'll see what i can get for the new camera.
