Canon Pixma 4200

Postby owen on Wed Sep 13, 2006 11:37 am

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I want a printer that is cheap, and a multi purpose one for printing out the occasional photo on. This printer I can get for around $150. Can you get printer profiles for this printer?

Any comments on it are welcome :)

Cheers,
Owen.

Well I bought it this arvo and the quality of the A4 photo I just printed is pretty incredible. I need to recalibrate my monitor and get it matching the printouts, but the quality is great.

I agree. I already have a G85 HP but this is for a home office and not quite photo quality. I wanted a cheapie that could also do DVD covers. Well the output is 1 picolitre from 4 cartridges. The price was $149 and when I got home it had gone down to $129. Which is about the cost of replacement cartridges. This has to be pretty good value. My arty images are going to get printed at work on the AV $10,000 machines but for anything up to A4 this has extremely good output. I remember paying $1300 for a NEC CP6 dot matrix! and I don't want to waste money on printers ever again. If you have an image that is that good get an expert to print it and make it A0. :D

Owen,

Great to hear you're happy with the ip4200 - it's a great printer. Like I mentioned, Canon do make dedicated photo ink tanks available if you want to use it as more of a photo printer.

Do let us know if you find profiles for it.

Cheers

Justin When you say dedicated do you mean something different to the CLI8 chrome inks that I have in mine?

Isn't that the way. The day after I buy it Dick Smith has it $30 cheaper! :o

Still doesn't make me unhappy about my buy though.

Owen,

Here is a link to a site selling the 'photo' cartridges :

http://www.printercartridges.com.au/store/prod2424.htm

Not much detail given - I just remembered seeing them there when I bought some of the standard cartridges.

Cheers

Printer cartridges sells the cartridges at well below retail costs of $27 and also sells D200's at a good price with GST and I notice ENEL3 batteries for $33

Matt Epson 1800 owners don't count. :) We want a cost-benefit decision in the print department and I think this is it at the moment. It is also the only piece of Canon equipment I have 8)
