First Pic 50mm 1.8

Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Thanks to Birdy ro the 50 1.8, here is the first shot of the dog.

I think she is sick of getting her photo taken.

Nice shot Matt, would be interested to know what metering you used here? Her nose seems to be sharply in focus and the eyes just SLIGHTLY out of focus, did you intend for this? How old is dog? Grey is setting in, just like my doggie! Mans best friend..for sure! Keep up the great work, and keep posting more images! :)

Great photo.

When I first put my 50mm onto the D70, the camera didn't feel right.
Too short, too light; a little bit weired.
But the sharpness and speed are rewarding.

Thanks christiand and Geoff,

When I got it out of the box it seemed a little funny, but it is great so far.

The only gripe is I find the AF a little odd, seems to be better in manual focusing. But probably just me .

Geoff, She's 8 years old now still acts like a puppy poorly trained and loves people especially kids.

The nose was not supposed to be the focal point but I was useing pattern metering mode according to the picture properties.

There must be an easier why to extra the picture properties, cut and past the results???

I have exactly the same experience with my 50mm 1.8 - manual focus seems to produce better results in a number of cases. Although I did notice that on one occasion when I thought I had it in auto focus, the exif actually said it was in manual focus, so perhaps there's an issue with checking after you change from one to the other.

However, I did get some really good almost zero light shots at the war memorial, which I intend to post, just as soon as I get a spare half hour or so to resize them for web.

Hi Matt. Nice pic of your mate :). I know what you mean about the dog getting sick of the camera getting pointed at it. As soon as I get mine out and point it at mine, it turns away and ignores me now :) Used to show great interest. I have a 12 year old Cardigan Corgi who loves saying hello to eveyone he meets.
