Another with the D1 (the D70 is a better camera than the D1 IMO)

great shot ...

Postby christiand on Fri Jan 21, 2005 10:28 pm

Hi Chris,

I think this is a great photo.
The spider is almost completely in focus and it is the outstanding object.
We also get to see the spider's web (net) which is not dominating.
I also like the back ground.
This is my personal opinion.
What lens did you use and what f-stop ?

Cheers

Thank you for your comments. This photo was shot in Gore Hill cemetery in Sydney with the micro Nikkor 60mm at f/4.

How did you light this? What lens? etc...

It's a fantastic shot - wish mine were somewhere close to this good!

Sheepie - the lens was the micro Nikkor 60mm and it was shot in the middle of a cemetery towards late afternoon on a winters day with the light behind the camera (I should say the waining sun).

I will post some of the cemetery shots soon - I love cemeteries - just trying it out for size

Fozzie - I can only make a guess at about 1 foot - it was shot sometime ago. I don’t like spiders so I would not get too close

Chris - too close for comfort, you are a better man than I.
I dislike spiders, almost as much as snakes.

Great shot... The spider's sharp as a tack and the detail in the web is great, although brought back some scary memories of driving home from work the other night in heavy traffic...

Thought I saw something on the bonnet of the car, didn't think much of it, next thing there's a huge hairy monster scrambling up the middle of the windscreen, I'm madly trying to shut the sun-roof, intermittently trying to watch the traffic, lookup at the edge of the sun-roof and before the sun-roof shuts, PLOP! The bloody thing lands on the bridge of my nose! All I could feel are these hairy bloody legs scrambling between my eyes! Madly throw the sunnies off in a panic, and it gets squished when the sunnies hit the dash with the spider in the middle... Makes me shudder thinking of it... Why me???

Cheers,
Mudder

Muuder,
Have you got the news on the paper today?
A lady saw a spider on her windscreen, lost control of her car and hit the tree!

Mudder - a few years back I had an RX7 and a permanent guest who always showed up at the wrong moment. I can remember bailing out of the car in the middle of the Gladesville bridge in Sydney - cars screeching to a halt, bad language flowing my way until I explained and then laughter all around.

I finally got the sucker late one night

The strange thing is that back in 1979 when I was in the desert searching for gold the spiders would be attracted by the lamps set up for cooking and I recollect one night seeing hundreds of spiders and I was standing in the middle of them. But, I was not worried about them - see one on the wall at home and I am paranoid that when I dispose of it its mate will get me!!

Ahhh, your responses make me feel much better... Thanks... I thought I must have been such a whoos...

When I'm looking at them from a distance far enough to at least enable me to focus on it I'm OK, but geessss.... I think I needed macro eyes!
