Picture authentication eh? cool ;)

Other than that and the wireless bit (which also needs another extra bit) there doesn't appear to be any added or changed features.

It looks like this release just adds the Image authentication feature from the D2Xs and support for the WT-3 wireless transmitter (new menu options). Although Nikon usually silently changes more than they mention in firmware release notes...

Some people over at Nikonians are saying that the firmware update addresses the problem with AF on
some Sigma lenses.

(Edit - also being reported at DPReview. The problem was that the AF button didn't operate with some
Sigma lenses. You could have the lens re-chipped to rectify, but the firmware upgrade appears to have
fixed it on the camera side making the re-chip unnecessary. Not sure why Nikon don't document things like
this, maybe they aren't sure if it will work and don't want to take the risk.)

And that there are other undocumented fixes as well.

I've read reports that VR lenses sound slightly different and hunt a bit less now as well. Some people report less high ISO noise as well, but this seems a bit more dubious..

I can confirm this, the AF-ON button now works with my Sigma 12-24 (it didn't before). Nothing earth-shattering, but nice that it now works! :)
