What to pay$$$I am considering (very seriously) about getting a Nikon D80 as the replacement for my stolen D70s, but I am unsure how much I should pay for it? I can only go through Harvey Norman due to Insurance Company! They have offered me a D80 at $2050 including the 18-135mm kit lense! Is this a fair price? The only problem is they are yet to hear when they will get some in stock, Camera House is selling thme for $2300???
Thanks in advance... Scott Nikon D80, Nikkor VR 80-400mm, Nikkor 18-135mm (kit lense), 90mm 2.8 macro, Tamron 2x AF TC

Can you not push the insurance company for a payout?
With that sort of money your are in the D200 ballpark.... Might be worth an expressive phone call especially seeing as though their supplier can't supply.... Get stuck into them All I know, is that I don't know enough.....
if the insurance company is paying the full price (either of the $2300 @ Camera House* or $2050 @ Harvey Norman) i would go Camera House if they have stock at the moment.
If you are paying the difference then Harvey Norman, unless of course you want the camera NOW! *I am assuming the Camera House comes with kit lens
My camera but unfortunately girlfriends insurance company! Have asked for a payout but because the expensive items weren't itemised they cannot do it, I am also looking at replacing my laptop and VR lense which were also stolen!!! Not a happy chappy... The thing is that there is a payout limit due to not being itemised (ie fine print!) So I have to juggle everything around so that I get back what was taken and of equal or better quality, so this includes DSLR, VR lense, Laptop and Panasonic DMCTZ1 to replace the girlfriends stolen camera! Unfortunately this doe's not replace some of her jewellery which she is willing to go with out for awhile! But that means I know what to get her for birthdays and christmas's... Re: What to pay$$$Scott,
You may consider registering your stolen equipment here: http://www.photo.net/neighbor/registry/ I am not sure if there’s a similar registry for stolen photography gear in Australia.
d80 is great! get it! d200 may be a bit too much for most ppl. i decided that i should learn n maximise my d80 before i waste my time with something as powerful as d200... i got mine grey import 1350 aussie
The price here is Au$1250, including delivery. g.

When you're buying grey, GST may not be applicable. You're dealing directly with HK Supplies, and products are shipped directly to your door from HK.
As with all products purchased from HK Supplies, you need to factor in the possibility of GST being applied, but that is something that is up to customs, and outside the control of HK SUpplies. g.

Including meaning that it is included already? or 1250 + delivery? That's a good price!! It has dropped right? Wonderful! However I am a Canon user and waiting for some Canon stuffs hehe ---
Equipment: camera body, wide lens, standard lens, telephoto lens, flash Wish list: skill
Including means that it's already included. Otherwise, it would say "extra". Yes, the price has dropped - I made mention of that earlier this week. Interestingly too, for Nikon, there have been no (to my knowledge) initial supply issues such as we had seen with the D70, D2X and D200 cameras. I have asked a number of times (I've lost count) for Canon prices, but apart from the 400D, I'm still waiting. My suspicions are that supply is not too good, and thus we're not able to get as competive a price, and thus the pricelist isn't forthcoming. g.

Adam,
I have also been waiting for Canon prices to be listed. I have asked Poon directly via a PM from this forum and via his Ebay store for pricing. Both emails have been ignored and they were sent 3 weeks apart. Gary may be right about supply, but seems a little odd as Poon currently has 137 Canon items listed on his Ebay store. I expect there is some other reason behind the no response. I bit the bullet and ordered from another Ebay store for a 580ex flash. Cheers Warwick

How do his prices compare? As I said, I think it's a combination of supply and price, and I think he likes to give us the best pricing he can, and with Canon that may simply not be as much of a reality as we'd like it to be. {quote]I bit the bullet and ordered from another Ebay store for a 580ex flash.[/quote] Which would be the correct choice to make. g.

Gary,
From Ebay prices alone, Poon was $50 more than I paid. Poon offers a free diffuser, but I ended up getting 2 years warrenty and rechargable batteries. Cheers, Warwick

Thanx Warwick.
That's pretty well confirming my thoughts - that his Canon prices may not be as competetive. Ah well .... g.

If you're emailing HKSupplies for prices, try sales@hksupplies.com instead of forum PM or ebay ask a question.
Also, as you can appreciate - English is not their native language, so keep your questions simple and to the point, eg. How much is x item delivered to Australia? Instead of long paragraphs saying you're tossing up between x and y lens, what are the pro's and con's of each, what is availability like, which one has better bokeh, etc. The latter styles of questions tends to get ignored as they don't tend to generate a sale (in the eyes of the vendor). Be aware of the difference in business practices of HK too - they tend to be straightforward cash for goods transactions, not a retailing experience to remember (for better or worse). Don't take that negatively, HKSupplies ship high volumes of goods daily and ebay/retail sales account for only about 20% of their revenue. Also if you buy from HKSupplies direct (using the email above) instead of via their ebay store, they may be able to give you a better price (minus ebay fees). I'm a walking banner for them. Because I truly believe they offer superior service to their competitors.
And if you buy through the forum's resources, you'll get even better proces than through buying direct, even though that's what your doing. g.

Hi Onyx,
I appreciate the relationship between this forum and HK Supplies. I would like to support this relationship 100% with my purchases and I fully intend to do so for future purchases (pending availability). Unfortunately at this time I can't purchase Canon equipment through the bargain section. I see the great benefits this relationship is offering, both in prices / service and delivery. If the Canon prices were equal to (or slightly higher) those of Ebay I would have purchased through the bargain section because of the fantastic feedback from members and supporting the forum. I would like to thank Gary and Poon for this relationship and the benefits offered to all. Cheers Warwick

I think you'd be surprised at how quickly your post count will mount up by just being an active member here. g.
