Leica M8 - who will be firstCurious to know if anyone has followed the development of this new camera, which has been given such a glowing headstart at dpreview.
Anyone interested in taking out a second mortgage for this little gem. http://www.dpreview.com/articles/leicam8/ Think what this camera could do in candid photography, a real wolf in sheeps clothing, or would the red dot give you away ? Where are all the Carter Bresson impersonators ? D300, D200, (D70 - now with daughter) and heaps of Nikon stuff.

I'm a bit concerned over who's making the sensor, honestly.

Why would that be Nnnnsic - don't you think Kodak is up to it? D300, D200, (D70 - now with daughter) and heaps of Nikon stuff.

Stunning
Edit: Leight how can you worry about Kodak when Nikon persists in using Sony. Except for my D2Hs Chris

Easy. Sony actually make sensors well.
Kodak don't make much that's good apart from paper and film. That said, I'd love to review one of those Leica's. I'd also like to see it compared to an RD1. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

id love one! pair it with the 50mm Leica f1.0 noc and you have a series low light camera!
Interesting hearing David Oliver talk about shooting weddings etc - shoots available light on the M series leica and with the 50mm f1.0. J
For the leicaphiles among you and for those with an interest in lens design, the " Leica Lens Compendium" by Erwin Puts is available for download

Kodak make very good sensors. For the big sensors used in medium-format gear, Kodak and Dalsa are the primary producers. They've also made sensors for military applications for a long time. This is not the same part of Kodak that ships tiny plastic cameras...
An interesting writeup on the new Leica M8 by Micheal of Luminuous-Landscape fame (or infamy)

Aren't Leica the first to take wide angle effects into account, and design a micro-lens array that compensates for those? You know, the kind of stuff that gives Canon a headache with their FF sensors and wide lenses.
Then again, Leica don't really have long lenses... Cheers Steffen. lust for comfort suffocates the soul
Because nobody can ever afford them... Generally speaking...
I got to use an M8 last week, but unfortunately it was a pre-production unit and the image quality definitely wasn't up to the samples produced at reidreviews and luminous landscape.
But the feel of the camera is definitely very nice! It'll be interesting to play with a real copy when they're around...
