NIKON D40........ real or hoaxCheers ....bp....
Difference between a good street photographer and a great street photographer.... Removing objects that do not belong... happy for the comments, but .....Please DO NOT edit my image..... http://bigpix.smugmug.com Forever changing
An upgraded D50 with a downgraded D80 combined together, sounds interesting...
There were some more humour about Nikon making the announcement in Mid November, just before Christmas to make a big hit on market... Dunno how will this gonna be...
They can never produce enough to meet the demands...
If that's a fake, that Photoshopper knows what he's doing.

It makes sense to me.
Nikon have said time and again that it is trying to gain more market share in the low end market so a true entry-level camera with NIKON branding will fit very well in the entry-level stakes, with Pentax, Olympus and now Sony etc. I always felt the D50 was aimed a little bit too high for Nikon to be competitive with those cameras. Still, it could also be another good fake. Steve.

Actually, The D80 is suprisingly available. No shortages in HK, at any rate. g.

This is just a thought...happy for it to be found wrong or illogical
If the D40 exists, and does become a production model, have Nikon made a potential mistake in using a 6mp chip? I mean, it probably helps keep the manufacturing cost down (rather than sourcing a 7 or 8mp unit)- so that might ameliorate some of the disadvantage. What I mean is, the D40 would be a camera pitched at people getting into photography, a cheaper alternative. However, some of the people upgrading to it from a p&s, or just buying it outright as their first camera have that real mentality about more mp=omg...better camera. Maybe as a purchaser, they'd have a hard time justifying it when the p&s market moves on to higher mp counts? Some people might not 'get' the idea of a dslr.
It's that time of year... we're heading towards the Christmas spending spree and the beta test phase for the "spring" show hardware. I have the usual FOAF rumors coming in, one guy who swears he has actually seen a 1DsIII and some new glass to go with it. Whether that will turn out to be true I dunno, but 23.9MP full frame does sounds good (unless, of course, you're a PhaseOne victim. I mean, customer).
personally I'm just hoping it drives the price of the 1DII and 1DsII down in the second hand market to the point where I can afford to buy one. Or one of each if I trip over a $10k note ijn the street. http://www.moz.net.nz
have bicycle, will go to Critical Mass
I think that this is aimed at those who do get it (had film SLRs etc) but have been put off by the sheer $$$ in the past. Let's face it, you used to be able to buy entry-level film SLRs around $500 yeah? DSLRs haven't been in that ballpark yet; maybe the D40 is a push towards that sort of market.
Trent, spot on. I have given two F401 as gifts in the past, and would love to give my godson a DSLR, but when I bought him a camera the D70 was the lowest. I bought him a digital P&S instead. I would have jumped at a D40 for say $850 kit.
I'd heard 22.
You've obviously never had the pleasure of using one. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au
