dye-sub printers

Postby dciscool on Sat Jan 22, 2005 5:54 pm

anyone got an opinion on those portable canon dye-sub printers for 6x4 prints. Also the olympus P-10 - seemed to have decent review on steves digicams.
Also epson picturemate is also a similar product but inkjet

The olympus - i saw for $179 at JBHifi

or should i just save for a canon pixma 5000, or r800 from epson

i tend to print my occasional large print from photolab. And i already have an old canon s750.

So he returns!
(I'm not sure that that's a good thing or not... but time will tell...)

Portable dye-sub's produce decent prints... the best of them coming from the Hi-Ti devices.

But I'd still buy an inkjet over one... you get much more printing control out of them, and personally, I wouldn't opt for the Pixma series of printers.
I'm still of the opinion that it was a waste that Canon even brought out several of these models.

You're better off picking between a Canon i965 or an Epson R800, unless you plan on hitting the A4+ realm.

I agree with the above post. Inkjet beats dyesub...even though that wasn't always the case. Inkjet can produce stunning images.

G'day,

I have a HP inkjet for anything larger than 6X4 and an Olympus P-10 dye sub for 6X4's.

Both produce excellent results, but I wouldn't go past the Olympus for 6X4's excellent near lab quality results and of course fully coated.

I have the Sony dye-sub printer too and now it's in my collectible items secion.
The Epson inkjet R800 or Epson 2100 will go past beyond the dye sub in quality.

I have HiTi 630PL.
Bought it few years ago from US for about AU$150 & did over 1000 prints without any probs.
Get paper & ribbon from US as well - half price of what you pay here...
Very convinient for 6x4.
Very happy with the results.
Prints are also very durable - you can submerge them in water without any side effects.
Cheers.

Gee I just replaced my old canon inkjet with an ip8500 cos it had great reviews. So far I'm pleased. Care to say why you don't recommend them so I can go throw mine off the roof :)
