Nikon "5D" Full Frame

reading dpreview, I see the Canon 5D is a fullframe, 1.0FOV crop. Surely Nikon are not far away???

I'm looking to upgrade from my D70, to a D200, or D2, and wondering if another is on the horizon (I know there always is with technology, but wanted to ask this group, as I'd hate to spend coin and then a D3-full-frame come out the next month).

I'm thinking 10+MP. Large Pro / Vertical Grip as I have big mitts, and primarily shoot in portrait.

Anyone bear news on the Nikon full frame front?

Hi Oz,

Nikon have been claiming for quite a while that they are not planning a full frame sensor camera.
Go the D200 with the MB-D200 verticle grip, you won't regret it. That's what I upgraded to from the D70. It's such a pleasure of a camera to use.

The D2X (or d200 for that matter) is a camera used by many very good (and for that matter very well paid) photographers...
Until I am equal or better than them I will not be concerned about having a full frame system... At the d70 suits my needs but as soon as I can afford it I will be upgrading to a d200 and then it will be the fleshware behind the camera that will need an upgrade!

if you want FF, jump to canon otherwise you'll forever be waiting. If you just shoot portraits and bugger all landscapes, there's not much advantage b/ween FF and 1.5x. Heck be thankful that the Nikon cameras don't have 1.67x

They will work, but with severe vignetting in some cases.

It's not a "catch", but a design constraint.

DX cameras don't require as large an image circle be projected by the lens when compared with FF bodies. Consequently, DX cameras have been designed to be smaller, lighter, and to only project that smaller image circle.

You buy a DX lens with the knowledge (or you should) that it is designed to not work on a FF camera. In the Canon world, the euivalent lenses don't even work on FF bodies because, again, of certain design issues.

If you believe that you will be using lenses on both FF and DX cameras, then your buying choices should be limited to those lenses that work on FF cameras only.
