This is something I actually worked out for myself (becouse I was to afraid to ask also)

I downloaded Mozilla Thungerbird and then you need to go into manage subscriptions (I think) and you add the link that the little orange box opens up.

It seems that basically you get every message posted into your e-mail account (or RSS reader, not so much your e-mail account) and then you can follow the messages that way instead of having to log onto the forum.

This was the first time I had even heard of RSS so I could be a little confused on what else it can do?

Ok.. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication...

All A RSS feed needs is a series of XML (X Markup language) to format title, subject, link etc...

Now once you have a page or code (eg myfeed.php) to generate this code there is a wide variety of clients that can do stuff with this info

For example, my personal organiser software, Kontact, has a summary page where it shows the number of unread emails, upcomming appointments from mty calendar and any news feeds (RSS) that I may be watching...

For example the SMH (http://www.smh.com.au) offers rss feeds...

RSS is basically a protocol that allows you to be constantly updated with new content on a particular site... In our case it means you can set your "reader" to poll d70users.com for new content on a regular basis...

While Thunderbird (as recommended by Leigh) may be a good solution I use a simpler and lighter solution called FeedReader available here

RSS is similar to the old usenet newsgroups... (if that helps!!!)

Hmmm... Nnnnsic... I don't recognise any of those characters... that must be the US version...

The characters on this site ring more of a bell with me... (from my uni days - which was a long, long time ago)

This picture is closer to my minds eye view of Marvin the Paranoid Android... btw... if you're bored with the hitchhiker series, try Douglas' Dirk Gently Holistic Detective Agency books - just as good - if not better...

I'd been ignoring this string because I didn't know what the @#$% an RSS feed was either, but the "Hitch-Hiker's" mention just perked my attention. I've got the whole series as MP3... just finished listening to it all over again on my iPod. The audio quality is excellent and if anybody (in this group only) is interested in saving themselves the effort of digitising it from their old records or tapes I'll happily supply them a copy on CD
