Please ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is. Please also check the portal page for more information on this. Ok, thus far it would appear the following people will attend:
Reschsmooth (obviously) Matty J (plus wifey?) Oscar (plus wifey) (BYOT) Leon Glen MattK (to control Leon?) Yi-P x 0.5 Mj (Michael) That is potentially 10 people. MattJ indicated he will bring about 1kg of coffee and I will probably roast up about 1 kg prior, so I am pretty confident that 2kgs should suffice (I roasted 1kg for my wedding of 50 adults and that was just enough). Of the kg that I will roast, I will have a couple of 'single origins' there for everyone to try plus a blend of some sort. If anyone has special milk requirements (for example, only drinks skim almond milk or something), you may want to bring your own - I will probably have normal low fat and full-cream milk. And if you only drink tea, don't forget to bring your purse (just kidding) P
just mattyj. no wifey. she detests coffee. and tea.
she's a top chick, but her tongue just doesn't get it.
Shame, I was potentially may buy some Haighs drinking chocolate which is one of the best I have had!
But thanks for the notification. P
Potential bad news: mother-in-laws birthday party may be moved to lunch time. I'll keep ya posted Pat.
UPDATE: party would start at 12:30ish, I'd probably need to be there to help set up.
Not Happy, Jan.
That would be a shame if you can't make it. Perhaps your mother in law wouldn't mind if you are late
If you can make it, even for a short time, that would be great - there would be no need to bring your machine/grinder. Cheers P
I'm sure the Mother In Law would be ok ... the wife is another story altogether. I'll see if I can drop in, even for an hour or so.
I was going to say something about being under the thumb, but if my wife found out, she would kill me
P
So, here is the list of people I understand will be coming (even if just dropping in):
Reschsmooth (obviously) Matty J Oscar (plus wifey) (BYOT) Leon Glen MattK (to control Leon?) Yi-P x 0.5 Mj (Michael) If you are on the list and shouldn't be or want to attend, please let me know. I will PM details to those who confirm sometime next week. Cheers Patrick
ok ... update time on Mother-in-law-party-gate ...
Mother-In-Law is meant to be working on saturday, so the party can't be on until the evening, when she's finished work. But Brother-In-Law (son of above), who is the main instigator of this party, was going to a 21st that night (most likely to try and pickup), hence arranging the party for lunchtime. We're 90% sure that the party will be on late afternoon/evening, but knowing my In-Laws, we won't know anything for certain until the last minute. And we'll probably end up at maccas somewhere anyway. So I'll push a bit harder, to set a time for late afternoon/evening, so I can commit to this coffee thing. don't you just love in-laws!
Matty, don't stress too much. Just tell your wife you have to pop out to get items for the party, and return hyper-caffeinated a few hours later. (I am sure there will be no repurcussions)
heehee. ... I put the hard word on, about feeling irresponsible about letting you guys know whether I'll be there or not at the last minute, especially if I've promised coffee.
She agreed, so I'll be there! Now to order coffee ... I've already spoken to Hazel, just gotta get back in touch to confirm it all! Oh, and I'll bring a few different steam tips to muck around with. One slow tip that makes really glossy milk, one fast tip that makes glossy milk very hard to achieve, and one unknown that has just been ordered today...
That's great, Matty.
It will be interesting to try the different steam tips - at the moment I am steaming for 1 at a time (wifey is off coffee for at least another 6 months), which is pretty difficult. By the way, I have about a kilo of Yemen moccha green beans left. I must say, it isn't my favourate bean, surprisingly. It's a bit too winey and florally for me. Would you be interested in a trade? Otherwise, I will roast some up for the 9th for people to try as single origin espresso. By the way, what are you using to roast your beans? Cheers P
From what I understand, this will commence by around 10am and finish off by noon (1am)?
If that is the case, count me in as x1.0
When you say 1am, are you referring to the earliest time you are likely to go to sleep after consuming copious amounts of caffeine? Cost of admission is an 85mm 1.4 lens. (I should never have borrowed that lens off you, even for a couple of minutes ) You are counted in. Excellent! P
You really should try a different steam tip - about $20 from coffeeparts.com will get you a tip that is perfect for 1 at a time, but too slow for more than one.
I haven't got enough beans left to trade with!
I was using a breville popper, until monday afternoon. A batch of monsooned malabar was just about to reach first crack. The first crack came from inside the body of the popper, and made the popper jump a few cm's off the table. Presumably it a plastic bracket breaking, the fan and heating element falling apart. I'm still considering whether I want to replace it, or just start buying from Campos/Hazel/Single Origin and the like... Or buying an actual roaster, the one reviewed by Mark on Coffeegeek has caught my eye.
My B&D popper has performed well for about 2.5 years - I reckon somewhere over 300 roasts! Although, I have had some nervous times, and given the popper is generally at waist level, I have thought about wearing my cricket box for protection!
Some of those new roasters do look good and even my wife has raised the prospect as a future birthday present! (Although I am not sure about pricing in Australia). P
there's a fairly cheap roaster for $110 (the imex???), but for the iRoast2, i think they're about $400, from a place in QLD. Or melbourne. can't remember.
i think the imex is little more than a popper in a different body.
That's what I have heard also. I think I would prefer to spend the money on a good BBQ and roasting set-up for the BBQ - at least you can use the BBQ for more than just coffee roasting!
Not to worry Matt, I am sure there will be another one in the future. P
Don't worry, my father is a vet, so I can get all sorts of restraints for Sheepie! (keep it clean...)

Rechssmooth, I hope we will see this sort of new technology at the meet
Glen, you sound like you have a doubt?
My machine has technology which accurately predicts current atmospheric pressure...... ....within the machine's boiler.
1kg of 'Holy Hildegard' (Hazel's gold medal winning blend) has been ordered today, Saturday.
Looking forward to this!
Matty, I will PM my address to those who confirm they are coming, based on the revised list below:
Reschsmooth (obviously) Matty J Oscar (plus wifey) (BYOT) Leon Glen Yi-P Mj (Michael) Can people please confirm if they are still going to attend? Cheers P
Yi-P, that's fine. People will be able to arrive late or leave early as it suits them. CHeers P
I think that is everyong initially on the list confirmed (apart from Mj).
I will PM my address later in the week. I will also try to get a surprise for Saturday morning also (note, I didn't say it was going to be a good surprise ) P
But that's no surprise! I will make myself decent and wear a pair of Speedos (TM)! P
That cause I've been running workshops this week and have no opportunity to keep tabs on you lot. Please consider me confirmed. Just let me konw where and when on Saturday and I'll be there... btw... also let me know if an extra popper would be of use... happy to bring mine along. Mj. Photography is not a crime, but perhaps my abuse of artistic license is?
I might come along.

1 kg of 'Holy Hildegaard!' (Hazel's Gold Medal Winning Blend) arrived today, and I've gotta say, it smells FANTASTIC!
Hazel tells me it won't be at it's peak till saturday, which is perfect for us. Very hard for me to not dig in though...
Fantastic stuff Matty - who knows, I may become a convert! How much per kilo (and shipping?). P
$38 for a kilo, I'm not sure how much postage was. It's $12.50 for a 250g packet, which is more expensive than supermarket coffee, but so worth it.
When you consider that Hazel takes your order, roasts your order for you (rather than digging 250g out of a stock of already roasted coffee) to suit your method of prep (plunger/vacpot/espresso), then posting it out with notes on dosage, recommended shot temps, and what flavours to look for, I'd say it's worth it.
Don't you get the same thing with Starbucks?
