Found this site with amazing astronomical photographs and information regarding our 'daylight bulb' (the sun). I wonder what kind of filter they have to put on top of the lens in order to stop down all that light...
So you did believe him taking one with a camera phone?

Unfortunately you cant buy a filter for your DSLR for X-Ray photos... but you can buy solar filters to cut back white light, I have one for my 25cm Newtonian. If you can find an optically flat #14 welders glass, that is ok too, if you don't mind the green colour. You can also buy very narrow band H-alpha filters with around 1 Angstrom bandpass for spectacular photos that show all sorts of detail that is not visible in broadband white light... but they are extremely expensive.
