looks like a con to me.....

I'm sure you'll only be able to contact them via email as the telephone number is an internet line (I'm sure it is), they'll probably only sell to people located at a distance from them, as you couldn't collect.... ask you to deposit money into an account and the camera will never show.

As you're possibly aware with an internet telephone number the person can be in Malaysia and have an Australian telephone number.
All I know, is that I don't know enough.....

Its been advertised in the TP for a few weeks - prob a couple of months now. Sometimes with a lens and sometimes without.

I wouldnt wanna buy it - it just seems that everytime i do a search on TP for NIKON - this same ad keeps appearing...

Some people are triers.... Here is his response.

Hello,
Sorry for my late email.
Unfortunately i had to leave country, i am now in Europe for some business. I took the camera with me, in case i can make a deal and sell it. Maybe you have tried to ring my phone number and nobody answered that is because i am out of the country (sorry for the inconvenience) . The camera is still for sale. It is a new camera, warranty 2 years, from Nikon.
For delivery and payment i will use Global Express ( http://www.globalcourrier.com ). Here how it goes. I make delivery, you make payment to Global Express. Money are kept by them until you receive and inspect the camera. After that you contact them and they send money to me. This way we are both secure, I will be waiting your email.
Thanks, Doss

Cheers

Who only ever offer a one year warranty.

Might be worth a bit of fun to ask how he manages to get such a good warranty.

From where did the email originate? The headers might be of interest.

From his use of syntax and excuse of leaving the country on business, it sounds like the same guy who tried this on eBay last year. A friend of mine got v. excited about a (literally) unbelievable deal on some high end Canon gear. He hadn't purchased on eBay before and was just about to send $6500 to this blike when he flicked me the listing.

I checked out the seller's history: 2,000 odd transactions, 100% positive. Sounded good, but when I checked the most recent sale it was a postage stamp.

Ditto for the next one, and so on... turns out the swindler was based in Italy and had hijacked the account of a sweet little old lady philatelist somewhere in QLD who had a simple password. I contacted my mate, then managed to get thru the maze to eBay 'security' and they eventually struck him off. It was a very close call. There were about 50 watchers on the sale at the time, and I'm sure he would have 'sold' the same item to them all. It pays to check these things out!

OK I like playing games. So here is the reply from me

Hi, thanks for the reply..

Shame you are not there , I was coming out your way to Bunderberg and could have picked up the camera. Buy the way who owns the pub in Bunderberg now? Globel Express also do COD so maybe you could send it COD and then I’d be even happier about handing over my money, you understand cant be to careful.

Also how did you get the special 2 yrs warrenty from Nikon, I hear they only give that to special custormers or Pro’s? Has this camera had Pro use?

Cheers
MATT

His address is a yahoo account also..

I'll play his game for a while could be fun.

Soon we get a new member here named DOSS :)

It'll be interesting how this turns out, the fact that it's still available after so long at that price, and he can't get a deal for it, even in Europe, doesn't sound right.

What an absolute scammer - his latest ad, he's based in melbourne but on a business trip to Europe..

I sent him email showing interest on the items - and got the same response...

IS this something that we should be reporting to the Trading Post.

It is clearly a scam, and they, surely, have a responsibility to be killing the ad?

This guy was selling a Canon 1D II in the TP for about $1000 over a year a go now. I emailed TP and they did nothing. I don't think that they care. I had the guy going for about a week though, pretending I was totally dumb and couldn't work out how to pay him via Western Union. It was funny.

I beleive we should.

I will send an email to TP. It is hard to track sellers like this though. The TP internet submission forms are automated and as long as he/she have a unique email address - he/she can easily create another account.

Even so, there is no excuse for them to continue the ad's placement once it's been discovered to be a scam.

Please keep me informed of the progress of this - PM me if you like.

If the TP doesn't seem to want to take an interest in this (wouldn't surprise me, given their ownership) I think I have another means of making them sit up and take notice.

Here is the email I sent to TP.. Will keep you guys up tp date what they do with it..

Dear TP,

I've been looking for a NIKON D200 through the trading post and have notice 2 different ads from different states.

Upon contacting this guy the response was the following both times:

Hello,

The D200 is currently retailing between $2100-$2600, and for this guy to be selling it for $1200 w/ lenses was just such a good deal.

I've seen this same ad a few times since NOV last year. Same type of picture and about the same price $1200ish.. Its recently that I got serious and actually wanted to buy the product and contacted the person.

This guy uses "bruceho2005 yahoo.com" as his email address without the @ symbol.

I'm sure that this is not a legit sale. I don’t know if theres any way of TP preventing advertisers like this, but I thought I’d raise it to you anyway - don’t know if this guy have burnt any buyers yet but if he has - they got scammed via the "Trading Post".

Just a concerned long time Tradingpost customer/User...

incase anyone is interested - here is TPs response - I can understand that its hard to put a complete stop to scam like these but atleast they reconised and done something about my message..

hopefully the scammer havent taken any $$$$ yet from bargain hunters out there....

Thanks for your email. I've checked both those advert numbers and our
Trust & Safety team have pulled the ads off and suspended the user
accounts. We get quite a few people placing fraudulent adverts for items
that are "overseas", usually cars, but now they appear to be branching
out into other categories.

Unfortunately there is no way of preventing them, as they just come back
the next week with another name, stolen credit card, free email account
and bogus advert.

For more information on the various scams to keep an eye out for, please
follow this link to our Trading Ideas forum.

http://www.tradingpost.com.au/tradingId ... m37-1.aspx

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Fortunately thanks
to the efforts of our T&S team fraudulent adverts tend to be removed
before unsuspecting customers are conned into parting with their cash.

I wish you all the best with your future online trading experience, and
should you require any further information or assistance please do not
hesitate to contact us.

The response is a positive one, and indicates a proactive approach to the problem.

As they point out, it's difficult to control, and I think this response is as good as one might expect.

Thanx for keeping us appraised of this one.
