I've had exactly the same issues trying to update my Nikon Capture software.

It wouldn't work at all for a couple of days, and now it is just slooooow.

The latest Taiwan Earthquakes have cut two undersea comms cables near the Taiwan Island. This has caused major disruptions to internet and telephone communications around Asia. China and Japan are particularly affected.

Hi....

Just wondering about the level of Picture Project you are after. When I got my D80 earlier this year it came with Picture Project v1.7, so is v1.64 the latest level that can only be downloaded?

I have loaded it and it does say v1.7, but I don't use it as as I think its too clumsy, or maybe its just me...LOL... I usually use Nikon View v6.2.7 as a quick way to view the Exif data from the photos....

Anyway, just thought that I would let you know about the current level of Picture Project, but apparently this level is only being release with the latest cameras and not available for download if Nikon only has v 1.64 on their site...

i think you're right soxOZ, im after 1.64 and its the latest released according to the website. other countries only have 1.61 or something.

the only reason i want it is to open some RAWs because i dont really have any other options or dollars...

Hi....

I just answered a similar question on Dpreview..

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readf ... d=21443378

and the "Nikonians"

http://www.nikonians.org/dcforum/DCForumID236/1109.html

The answer's I gave there are probably applicable to you as well..

Nikon View v6.2.7 (current) will view the Nef files but you cannot edit them.

You can also use a couple of 3rd party software to view and edit your NEF files.
I have used on occasions Faststone viewer and IDimager which are free programs to download and use. I know they work with D50 & D80 NEF files so I would imagine that it works with a D40 as well. I don't know which camera you have, as it would have to be either a D40 or D80 as Nikon View & Project will read D50....

Here is the link to the sites....

FastStone Viewer
http://www.faststone.org/download.htm

IDimager
http://www.idimager.com/download.htm

If you were in Adelaide, you would be welcome to grab a copy of Picture Project v1.7 from me as this is a free software from Nikon, so it won't be infringing on any copyright laws... But give both the 3rd party programs a run as they just might do what you want...

Good luck with it all.....

Hi...

Well if you have the D70s, Nikon View v6.2.7 should work with your NEF files as far as I know... If you can get onto Nikon's site, you could try downloading this as well and give it a try..... IMHO, Its a lot better program than Picture Project and it's also a viewer.... But for a lot of PP, IDimager is very good, bit slow but does a good job.....

Good Luck.....

I have the 2005 and 2006 versions
It DOES work with the D70s, but Pixmantic have been bought out by Adobe. Is it still available as a free download?

Hi Greg....

I downloaded the 2006 version 2 nights ago as I was using the 2005 and wanted to update. It does read D50 & D70/70s NEF files but does not read D80 NEF's...

If you have the 2006 version, that is the latest download from their site.... There is also another free download program called "Raw Therapee" that does a lot (this one does read D80 and I would think D40 NEF files), it's only downfall is its not the fastest of programs but it does a very good job... It's worth a try, and they have a version of it for Linux........
