Picture of the year 2006The mods are having a break from Picture of the week during the Christmas New Year week and instead featuring your choice as the best picture from the POTY selections of the past year.
So without further ado, here is Poon's incredibly powerful winning image taken during the World Trade Organisation meeting in Hong Kong just over a year ago. Details of all POTY voting and the nominees can be found HERE The mods and key members wish you and those close to you a safe and happy time during the festive season. Peter

It is the menace apparent in this shot that makes it such a standout. The almost monochromatic tones with the bold white "Police" signs on the helmets certainly indicate a degree of menace to me.
I also like the close-up viewpoint, and the panoramic treatment of the image adds to its power. TFF (Trevor)

Since Poon won the POTY, do you think he should celebrate by giving away a 18-200mm VR to all D50 owners?
Congratulations Poon! A well deserved win for an outstanding image! Next time.....throw something at them so they start chasing you......you will get a more dynamic picture that way!

Great choice of POTY, and sure this is a very strong image, no wonder how it sold out as one of firsts in Melbourne
