Buying from HK Supplies

Hey guys

I am very new to DSLR photography

Anyway I was planning to purchase the Nikon D80 with the 18-200 lens from HK Supplies.

I know this person is very reputable based on peoples opinion but I am concerned about Warranty issues. If the camera should fail can I just take it to an authorised repairer or will I need to send it back to HK Supplies?

Hi Devil,
We have a very long and successful history with Poon, the supplier from HK supplies. I have ordered stuff through him both through this website (as a senior member with more than 50 meaningful posts) and through ebay. I know that if a problem ever arose with my gear purchased through him, there wouldn't be a concern at all in returning it to his base for repair etc. Hope this helps.

If you purchase through HK supplies, it WILL have to be sent back to HK.

I would allow for 10%.

As Geoff suggests, it would be prudent to factor an extra 10% into your calculations for GST etc.

That said, I cannot recall the last time that anyone was asked to pay extra, but that should not be taken as anything other than hearsay: each case will be treeated on its merits by Customs, and that is something that is beyond the control of any of the parties to the transaction.

A minor piece of housekeeping, please: could you please adjust your location (as stated in your profile) to something that more closely describes where you are located? "Sydney, Australia" is not really a satisfactgory description: your suburb would be a great place to start.

Poon has quite a bunch of my hard earned mula... but I have more camera gear than I could have ever hoped to buy domestically!

And as one of the many here on this forum who have met him personally over a glass or two I do not hesitate to recomend him!

That would depend on the item, how you've packed it, with whom you're sending it and how.

But you might want to consider the purcahse of an aftermarket extended warranty that could cover the cost of local repairs.

Hi,

I have purchased a lens from HK Supplies once on eBay before I opened my account on this forum.
HK Supplies is a popular supplier among members of this forum and it has great response from many customers on eBay too.

What I can suggest about local warranties is that you can obtain them from Mack. Warranty from Mack will cover your equipment locally. I have not bought this warranty myself, not yet; I am considering buying it for my recently acquired SB-800 and the lens which I am planning to buy shortly.
1 year, 3 years and 7 years warranties are available from this company which can be purchased within a month after you’re purchased your equipment. Also, 1 year warranty is offered for used equipment.
To me, it sounds too good to be true. PS: I'd like to hear some feedback from Mack customers who bought Mack's warranty and had to claim it in Australia.

I believe Mack warranties don"t start until the maufactureres warrenty runs out. Just watch that clause. (I may be wrong with this).............Nah! Never!
