Oooohh ahh, its that time of the year again already?
Hopefully some level of accreditation falls into my lap tomorrow; IIRC the part of the track where there is a sharp U outside one of the pubs on Rundle/East Tce has a killer section for accredited media to get in tight and wide on the cyclists with a lovely backdrop of the crowd in the shade.
I always forget that is on so early in the year.
I'll probably come along. I'll let you know closer to the event. Daniel Nikon D4, D2Xs, D70, Nikkors and Sigmas lenses from 10 to 400mm

Count me in Fozzie
& Tuesday is my day off D80 & me need a good workout lol Never been to the Tour so will be first time for me & good to catch up with everyone maybe someone can show me the finner points of sports Photography warren aka aussichef Nikon D50/D80 Nikon,MB-D80 70-200 2.8 VR,Sigma 18-50 2.8, Kenko 1.4x TC, 2 kit lenses ,Nikon 50mm f1.8 Nikon SB-600 Tamron 90mm 2.8 Canon 500D closeup lens
..as luck would have it, 2007 is the first time that our govt dept (sport & rec) is not one of the main sponsors of the TDU (ie great access to vantage points, events and the riders.)
but it is the year that I have both the time and the gear to at least try & get some good shots & practice sports photog. A few mates are made keen cyclists so will probably end up in town on Tuesday night but not sure if a few cleansing ales and taking good sharp pics go hand in hand...especially if it is hot I will stay in touch - I have Fozzies number. cheers R2
If you don't some form of media pass or get there MANY hours before it starts don't even bother taking your camera as there are so many people lining the circuit you won't get many shots.
The Sunday circuit is much better (and the race is longer) Canon 1D III
I've been a couple of times and haven't ever had any issues getting numerous vantage points to get some good images petal666.
I do agree the Sunday is better tho. I often hang around on the North Adelaide side of the Torrens and you pretty much have free reign there (as long as there aren't too many power-tripping security peeps!!).
Hanging over a fence on a straight or actually on the outside apex of a corner? Sunday was cool compared to the rest of the week. Canon 1D III
Hopefully I haven't been shafted with a "no access to the track, no access to the finish line, no access to the tour village" pass but heck, pretty stoked. If you guy's are interested, there is also the "Tour Down Under Night of Stars Official Team Presentation and Track Cycling Spectacular" at 6-8.30PM down at the SuperDrome the night before the Classic, hone in the AI Servo skills and get the reflexes working hehe. BBJ, if your in town anyway - they also have some inflatable mascots parading around at 2PM on that day (Monday) as well.
Hi Ronnie, yeh well Monday i am not sure what i will be doing as yet, maybe visiting or something or if it is too hot just kick back at fozzies maybe. I am not sure what lens to use as yet so not sure if 300m too big but figure early evening f2.8 maybe still ok and wlel will maybe use both cams 1 with 300 and 1 with 70-200. Will bring if anyone wants to look at it.

Lucky bastards with Nikon stuff *mutters mutters* I think I'll carry the 70-200/2.8 IS and the 17-40...but also torn on the 300/4L. Too many choices but'll prolly get more interesting stuff up close and wide.
Well fella's i guess i may not get to say much more here as i have to shoot speedway bikes 2nite for inside speedway magazine so will be late nite to come home process some pics and get off to ppl and then load car up in the morning and head to Adelaide so see most of you at the meet maybe if you there.

After the bikes, I shall be heading to the beach or Mt Lofty to photograph the comet..this sucker will be bright and an easy target for all, You will be able to use any lens you want but for detail will have to bring out the big stuff.. 2x on the 400mm!! You will not have to track it because it is so bright - just a few seconds will do, I will be doing this every night this week starting tomorrow. The comet (mcnaught) is viewable just after sunset in the southwest fairly low in the sky but getting progressively higher..This is an excellent opportunity to get a photo of what is going to be the brightest for a decade - who is with me? I wont be back at the computer till monday so you will have to ring on the mobile if you want to join me on Sunday evening.

Hey fozzie; did indeed obtain accreditation to the event this year and the hospitality they offer to all the "media" and cyclists is just top notch.
I've sent a PM to stubbsy, hopefully I can start a massive photo thread about my experience but so far its been tiring but really interesting shooting alongside people from the 'Tiser/AAP/The Australian along with more down to earth free lancers and even a wedding photographer. Today involved a briefing, a press conference with the four big riders, a photo shoot with the foreign riders holding animals and then the Night of Stars down at Gepps Cross. The women get onto the East End track at 5.30PM tomorrow night although I'm struggling to find in the plethora of info they've dumped on me to see what time the Classic officially starts. If anyone comes across a young asian guy toting around Canon equipment with a blue tag hanging around his neck, be sure to say hi; I've only ever met Big V!
Ronza - and a great experience for you. I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy yourself.
We will keep an eye out for you. So if you get a tap on the shoulder from some strangers, it will be us.
fozzie
