Nikon quality? Bah!

Postby moggy on Mon Jan 15, 2007 12:01 pm

The CCD in my Coolpix 5700 has just shat itself, I switched the camera on and got coloured lines running down the screen. I dropped it into Nikon Oz service and it will take 3-4 weeks to fix, the only bright note being it's a freebie as it's a known fault. What with the D70s needing a new shutter last month after only 2k actuations I'm not very happy with Nikon.

I used to be indecisive..but now I'm not so sure.

Welcome to the world of consumer electronics! :)

It seems that others have all of the bad luck with cameras. I have 7 Nikon bodies (and one Canon) and have not had a single issue. Same for other photographic gear... I did have a CP5700 go on me three years back, but that was my own fault.

But computers.... I have had a lousy run with everything that has had anything but an Intel chipset. In the past couple of months I have had four workstations (that is all of them) go south - two have been repaired twice.
I have a few weeks (due to the rain) to yank all of the motherboards and processors and replace it with gear that I trust... and then reinstall OSes and software.

Cheers
