Someone's likely to be ripped off

"this lens retails for over $4,000" - where?

If that was any normal commercial environment, surely the ACCC would be interested in misleading information.

That was fun, ask the seller a question:

Two points for you:

1. This lens is available in SYDNEY with a Nikon Aust warranty for $2850 at ECS.

2. You state this lens is 'new' under condition yet you then explain it's been used three times. Which is it?

:D :D :D

Problem with Ebay is that it's up to the seller if he wants to make questions and answers public so no matter what he answers, others will be none the wiser.

Geoff... but argh! think you've got to him. He's altered the starting bid down to 2850 from $3000 earlier in the day.

and now changed the text slightly in the listing: :D
ebay seller wrote:this lens retails for over $4,000 and you will not see any for sale at the low price of $2,850 (maybe) it is here in Australia no shocks as customs hits you.

None for $2850... you mean, like the list price at Teds?

Oh no, now the seller is upset people have questioned his overpriced and questionable listing!

ebay seller wrote:Very hard to explain that the lens is in pristine condition, so have put used to make the rude e-mails I have recieved happy, you would be not be upset if you could see this unit, impulse buying by myself and left sitting around without using. Sure hope the lower price helps you rude people who E-Mailed me!!!!!

He has now dropped the price to $2,450.

Whilst he/she is clearly overpriced, by adding those comments about "get it cheaper", "buy it elsewhere", he/she is alerting any watchers that his/her price is likely to be excessive.

Well, I give the guy one thing, he's prompt with replies, and he has provided the serial number. Maybe he used to work for Maxwells and that's where he's getting his prices from.

I don't know whats wrong with this idiot.

In reality you guys are really only trying to help him set a realistic price for his lenses.

Anyone buying lenses for the prices he is asking will do their homework first - even looking up the D-D Photograhics prices which are also advertised on ebay.

Now he has put up a price reference site - shopbot.com. some one should point him to DD photographics or any of the other grey sites which abound ebay.

The problem is that idiots begat idiots - someone will probably say ”Oooh - what a bargain” - I was tempted to send him the d-d-digital price which includes a tax invoice!!!!
