Backdrop system setup

As many of you know I recently purchased the backdrop system to hang backdrop's off. This is a portable system and packs up quite conveniently into a cary bag (similar to a tripod bag but obviously a bit bigger). This is a very quick review and I will post more images when I buy the material. I haven't yet decided what length I will go for. I will be getting some cheap PVC piping from Bunnings and then putting the material onto this. This piping will then slide onto the cross bar, anyway:

7 pieces, including the bag: Two ends, that extend very high (3m). You can have 2, 3 or 4 cross bars, which changes the length, according to backdrop material and room size.




The end connecting piece, secured by a butterfly nut:

Sure is Wendell. Will extend (as seen in the last image) to 3.6m wide.

Geoff, looks good. Whilst I can't imagine why you would need to extend it to 3.6m wide, however, at that width, does it seem strong enough if you were to add the weight of the backdrops? My concern would be the amount of flex in the middle.

Pat - I thought the same thing to about the bowing in the middle, but like you said I think it's highly unlikely I'll use it at that length.

I don't think that bowing in the middle will be too much on an issue.

Geoff is going to buy some PVC pipe that is slipped over the cross beam, making 2 rods between the upright supports. The backdrop is then wrapped around the PVC pipe for hanging and storage.

Dragon Images sell aluminium pipe (about $45) for this purpose as well, but the sales guy was kind enough to mention that PVC pipe will do the same and a lot cheaper option.

I'll supply the umbrella if you can "borrow" some bed sheets as a backdrop..

Robyn purchased some blue material from Spotlight and just hemmed it for me. It was on special at a couple of dollars a metre and works well as a backdrop for standard kids/family type portraits. Black and white would also be good. My two bob's worth...

That is great looking kit there, I'm now considering adding this to my light setup as well... oh boy, this bill gonna be big...
