Someone's likely to be ripped offhttp://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nikon-28-70mm-ED ... dZViewItem
"this lens retails for over $4,000" - where? If that was any normal commercial environment, surely the ACCC would be interested in misleading information. (If this post is inappropriate, mods can delete) P
Holy crap!
I'd love to tell this guy about this: http://www.cameras.net.au/New_Stock_List.htm $2850 at ECS. Geoff
Special Moments Photography Nikon D700, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, 70-200 2.8VR, SB800 & some simple studio stuff.
That was fun, ask the seller a question:

Gary Stark Nikon, Canon, Bronica .... stuff The people who want English to be the official language of the United States are uncomfortable with their leaders being fluent in it - US Pres. Bartlet
The lens in the photo also has a crappy white plastic push-on rear lens cap, which is also Not Quite Right.
Tell him e's dreamin!
Geoff,
Please let us know how he answers your questions. "Only driven on Sundays, to church by a little old lady". g.

The problem is (knowing Ebay) he'll get some poor sucker who'll buy it

Problem with Ebay is that it's up to the seller if he wants to make questions and answers public so no matter what he answers, others will be none the wiser.

I got a reply!!! And this was it (in it's entirety):
Go figure? Geoff

Just had to look for myself... and saw this
Surely he's not referring to you Geoff! D4, D700, plus glass from 14mm to 200mm
Gaffa Tape is like the FORCE... it has a Light side, a Dark side and it holds the universe together
Geoff... but argh! think you've got to him. He's altered the starting bid down to 2850 from $3000 earlier in the day.
and now changed the text slightly in the listing:
None for $2850... you mean, like the list price at Teds? Oh no, now the seller is upset people have questioned his overpriced and questionable listing!
He has now dropped the price to $2,450.
Whilst he/she is clearly overpriced, by adding those comments about "get it cheaper", "buy it elsewhere", he/she is alerting any watchers that his/her price is likely to be excessive. P
My my ...
Do not bother to send E-Mails re your "Can get it cheaper" I do not care just do not bid!!!
Looks like his prospective cutomer base feels similarly too. Thus far this item has a total of .... Yep, let's count 'em all ... er, um .... ahhh ... zero bids! How long before he turns to the Trading Post? g.

It's now $2250 !!
Lots a luck buddy, even at that price! Looks like we may have got to him D4|D3S|D700+MB-D10| 14-24 |24-70|70-200 f/2.8 VRII|70-200 f/4 VR|80-400 AF-S|500VR|Sigma 150 f/2.8 macro|TC's 1.4,1.7E & 2.0III|SB 900
This is a funny seller, beware of stolen product.
His feedback figures make him look impressive. BUT!!! Nobt of the feedback is by other sellers, not his own buyers.
If he knows how and where to read it from
Will it fit my 5D ? g.

You all so bad. Making fun of my spelling and my ebay advertisement.
I did not steal the lens! I bought it real. I know where the serial number is! If you want to know, it is 28-70. ok. joking. not mine. ---
Equipment: camera body, wide lens, standard lens, telephoto lens, flash Wish list: skill
Well, I give the guy one thing, he's prompt with replies, and he has provided the serial number. Maybe he used to work for Maxwells and that's where he's getting his prices from.

I don't know whats wrong with this idiot.
In reality you guys are really only trying to help him set a realistic price for his lenses. Anyone buying lenses for the prices he is asking will do their homework first - even looking up the D-D Photograhics prices which are also advertised on ebay. Now he has put up a price reference site - shopbot.com. some one should point him to DD photographics or any of the other grey sites which abound ebay.
The problem is that idiots begat idiots - someone will probably say ”Oooh - what a bargain” - I was tempted to send him the d-d-digital price which includes a tax invoice!!!!

anyone who is into SLR photography will know roughly the prices or even compare them. i don't know anyone who would just go and buy this lens from this guy because a guy selling something on, of all places eBay something says that it is a bargain? yeah... right
