How much could I sell a D50 for?

Postby rflower on Thu Jan 18, 2007 2:10 pm

All,

I have been given a proposal by my father ... He will buy me a D80 with Kit lens  , but I have to sell my D50 first and give him any money from said sale towards the new purchase.

The D50 is about 15 months old (and is in pretty good condition), and has taken approx 2500 photos. I would probably look at selling the D50 kit lens (18-55) with it.

I have a mate who would be interested, but I am not sure what price to advise. What type of price could / should I ask for? I paid around $1200. MODS ... if this is the wrong spot for this post, please move where appropriate.

Thanks

Russell

Russel,

The D50 kit currently retails for $999 at Vanbar. I would feel comfortable (if it was my camera and I was selling it :) ) for around $800 - more would be nice. That might be a bit of a hit from $1200... but then I paid $2400 for a d70 kit which can now be had new (d70s) for little more than half of that.

Cheers

Around $700-800 is reasonable for one that has this little shutter actuations.

 I have started taken more lately, especially since I found this site. Always wanting to improve my skills, and try things that I see others doing.

It would seem that $700 is out of my mate's range ... A fair bit out. I am now thinking about dipping my toe in that global marketplace otherwise known as EBay, or the Trading Post. I am not sure how well this will go, with a brand new D40 kit available for around $1000. I would be happy with around $600 to $700

Does anyone have any other thoughts or places where I might be able to sell the camera?

It would be so much easier if I could keep the D50 as a second body / wife's camera  but such is life. Especially when I cannot afford the $600 or so to give my dad.
