Canon new models in Febuary-- How true?

Postby gavcam on Sat Jan 20, 2007 1:41 pm

Canon new models due out in Febuary so the rumor goes.

Well the rumours are:

- 400D - will not be replaced. There have been rumours of a sub-400D camera (4000D?) which will be cheaper than the Nikon D50 and any camera to date.

- 30D replacement. More of the same, but with DIGIC III and 12-13MP. Will retain 5 fps frame rate, 1.6x crop. Probably have improved AF module.

- 5D line split into two. Lower end will be a full frame camera like the current 5D, but build quality like the 20D. No weather sealing. 3FPS frame rate. The higher end 5D (perhaps called a 3D?) will also be full frame, but 16-17MP and 5FPS. Both cameras will use DIGIC III.

- 1DS/1D merged into one camera. Will have a brand new sensor technology which will not use Bayer interpolation. Will probably be a triple layer sensor like Foveon's. At 22MP, it will have 66 effective MP given that the same pixel location will detect 3 different colours. May have a D2X style crop mode for higher FPS. Will (of course) have DIGIC III.
Ripped from another forum.

ALL JUST RUMOURS! OR ARE THEY ?

Can anyone confirm or otherwise this rumor

Please take a moment to read our FAQ; you state that this was "Ripped from another forum." .... This may present issues of copyright, and ripping from another forum is really not a good way to go. Please add a reference to the source of this information, and please, always, respect the rights of other people when you are quoting them, or if you are referring to their images.

We do take issues of IP very seriously here, and your future cooperation is appreciated.

Amfibius = Keith Wong, an OCAUer who probably "ripped" it from postings of Andrew Murdoch, the protege of Canonite photog who goes by the pseudonym Paul Pope, of Melbourne.

I give it more than the usual grains of salt for credibility, as Paul Pope has ties with Canon and I believe may be a prototype tester for some of their newer products. In any case, he has been right about previous pre introduction "rumours" leaked on DPReview and OCAU forums, so these may turn out to be correct (but unsurprisingly... at least for me).

Its a small world somtimes, I know his real name is Keith in the Planet Audio forum and OCAU forum.

I hope the rumors are true as I will have a good look at the cheeper of the 5D versions especially if it is Full Frame.

I'm not sure about the Foveon part.

I've heard that rumour for a while now, but I'd expect Sigma to want to pin that area down and keep it with their box all to themselves.

The new 1DsMk2, which will probably be either the Mk3 or labeled as what I'm hearing could be "X" will go up to 22mp... that's something most people have known about for a while now.

Not sure about a combination between the N and the Mk2... I'm not so sure that would be a good thing, but we'd have to see I guess.
