Do not call registry

Postby Geoff on Wed Feb 07, 2007 5:54 pm

Does anyone know about the legislation that they were talking about several months ago about having a do not call registry so that you don't get stalked by ppl in India who u can hardly hear offering you deals that you don't want? We currently get about 3 a week and it's getting to the point of being ridiculous. Anyone know anything?

They most likely won't be covered by it. :(

Still in process, I believe.

Even better, tell them you're really, really interested in what they're selling, and then ask them to hold for "a moment." Walk away and resume whatever you were doing, and in 5 or 10 minutes come back and say "I'll only be a bit longer..." and repeat as necessary.

After you've screwed with them for 30 minutes, only then is the perfect time to tell them to get f**ked or simply hang up. The beauty of this tactic is that it wastes their time, sparing other people the hassle of dealing with the call. I also find it a great fun stress reliever at work, messing with telesales staff. Last week I had one on the line for 34 minutes (timed it as my personal record :)), had everyone in the office in stitches when I spoke to them every few minutes.
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!

They must work there way through from A-Z .We haven't had any for months .But there are times when you get a spurt of two or three a week for a short period . I'd love to know what the success rate is from call centres.
I wouldn't buy anything or donate to charity over the phone from a cold call regardless of what or who it is.Nothing. Ever! I hate them with a passion .
I'm lucky in a way as the phone is registered in my Mrs name so when they call and ask is that Mr (Mrs maiden name ) .I can safely say 99 times out of 100 that its a call centre . I'm never rude ,just extremely short with them."Nope, not interested ,Bye ! "

We used to get a few a day!

What I did then is I picked up the phone talked for a few seconds until they start edtheir spill then quietly put the handset on the desk as if you are still on the other end whilst they keep talking away not realising you walked off. We get about one call a month now.

Hope this helps.

Ok Geoff,

Could find the exact details for the register that I registered with so did some looking around.

Seems as though the new Government Register will be online in May and therefore no one is taking new applications. I think this is where my number was lodged...(dont quote me on that)

Taken from following site http://www.adma.com.au/asp/index.asp?pgid=1999
PLEASE NOTE: ADMA is no longer accepting registrations for the ADMA Do Not Call Service. From May 2007 you will be able to register with the new Government National Do Not Call register, which will replace the current ADMA Do Not Call scheme.

For more information on the Government National Do Not Call register please visit http://www.dcita.gov.au/communications_ ... o_not_call

If you are already registered on the ADMA Do Not Call register, ADMA member companies will continue to respect your preference not to receive future telemarketing calls until May 2007. However, from May 2007 onwards, if you wish to continue to opt-out of telemarketing calls you will be required to reregister with the Government National Do Not Call register.

In 2 + years haven't had any trouble but looks like we'll all have to wait until May.

Sorry, maybe you could try selling them some photos or something. Turn the high pressure selling back on them

Cheers

Geoff, you only get 3 calls a week, I want your phone no care to swap.

Firsty, That is the best laugh I have had this year,.

When I get the Indian call centres asking for the Bussiness owner I say he is down in the ware house please hold the line, after a minute or so I come back in and say he has gone to the factory floor please hold after I come back on and say he is in dispatch and he will be available shortly. If the are still there I speak in my best Peter Sellars impersonation asking are they calling from Deli and do they know my cousin he lives in a very nice white house in the middle of town and I am sure they must know him.

The have usually hung up by now but if the are still one the line I tell them that ther is no way I would do business with anyone silly enough to fall for my Bullshit and hang up.

Cheers Rick
