Yikes that isn't good news..
I'd think you might get 500-700 for the body, but given it been damaged before maybe on the lower side of that range ?

Have you got household insurance and is it listed on the policy? $100 excess would be worth paying to have this one fixed I would think.

I just paid $ 920.00 for a low actuation D70s with kit Lens.
Subtract $ 250 - 300 for sale of Kit Lens on Auction site.

Poroday?
Send the camera to Maxwells...I presume they are still repairing Nikon cameras? (anyone?) If they fix the camera then you can be sure it will be as good as new. And you might get a cheaper quote. I have had many cameras repaired by Maxwells and have always been more than satisfied with the outcome. And you get a warrenty with the repairs.

No.
Just the one tech, a Swiss gentleman named Peter. A friend of John Swainston, I believe, who helped him set up shot here.

FWIW, I have had excellent experiences with Poraday. I sent in a D70 with a fried circuit board on a Wednesday in late December, and was holding the repaired camera in my hand on the Friday of the same week. Much quicker than through Maxwells, as you don't have to deal with the bureaucracy. Peter is a great bloke who has looked after the ~5 D70s my work has sent there.
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!

We do have contents insurance. But not for accidental damage.
I have since got my camera gear covered for accidental damage in and out of home.

Probably not at this stage. I'd rather put the $450 towards another body. I have my eye on a few d200's on ebay. Maybe??
My D70 is still usable anyway. The only issue is it can't autofocus on distant objects.

FWIW:
I purchased the extended 5 year warranty with my D70s. Cost me $90, have used it once (repair came to $475 didnt pay a cent), camera is 2 years old, still 3 years of warranty left. Best $90 ever spent.
I will buy extended warranty with my D2x or D200 (still unsure of which I will get, but thats another story)
