I bought a lens two weeks ago.

Saturday - Ordered late at night
Monday - Funds Cleared (allow at least one business day for bank transfers. PayPay may have a longer clearing cycle???)
Friday - on my desk at work first thing in the morning.

The service standard is ahead of worlds best practice!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

You didn't order through the forum facilities, did you?

Regardless, Poon ships pretty quickly, and I'd be a little surprised if it wasn't on your doorstep before the end of the week.

That's the good news.

The bad news is .... read the first line ...

I have ordered many things through the forum, and the process is seamless.

Most Highly Recommended, and you get your items with confidence, at a great price!

On this one item, the saving through the forum is about Au$250. That's Poon's eBay price compared with his forum price.

Delivery ETA will be about the same, regardless of the payment method.

A purchase through the forums helps support the forums.

If there are any issues with the transaction - very rare - we have a direct line of communication, and an established relationship, with the vendor.

I'll see your advantage and raise you three more. :)

1: Front page. FAQ. You need to read it.

2: Front page. Bargains section. Been there almost since the forum started, and difficult to miss. Read the front page description. Then read the sticky posts. Then go back to point 1 above.

Its simple. Its like ordering via an email form, rather then a webshop look.

Orders are clear, confirmation prompt, lots of fun with gear keeps me happy :D

If it shipped on Wednesday, it should be in your hands on Friday, most likely.

With UPS and FedEx, you csn go to their websites and follow its progress.

I ordered an item through Poon (via the forum) last Friday and received confirmation early this morning saying the item has been shipped, with a tracking number. When I go to the UPS & FedEx sites, the tracking number seems invalid.

The email I got indicated registered mail - not sure if this means anything.

Should I be able to track through either of the two sites?

Patrick, I have no idea how your item was shipped but if post this is the tracking site for it. It will also work in ausposts tracking once it gets through customs. Often HK post numbers have HK at the end. Hope this helps.

Thanks Glen, although I had no luck with either the HK Post or Aus Post sites. I am not overly worried about it as it appears no-one here has had any problems in the past.

Not for registered mail, Patrick.

UPS is for UPS, FedEx for Fed Ex .... and both are very good in letting you get an idea of where your parcel is.

For EMS (not registered) the HK and Oz postal sites work ... to a point. The problem seems to be (to me) that Oz Post don;t do a good job of following up the tracking, so the data gets entered at HK, you can see it shipped from HK. That's all on the HK site, and then you need to watch the AP site, where, if you're lucky, you may see its arrival in Oz, and if you're really lucky, you might see more tracking data.

That's a very big if though, and the usual APathy APplies.

For registered post - which is what I think you're getting - it's called a tracking number, and that's about the only place that the word "tracking" might be used. I think you can see it in the HK site, but in Oz, it's mainly used as a proof of delivery receipt type of document. That doesn;t make the delivery mode any less reliable (I've not seen one get lost), it just means that you're not as able to follow its progress to your doorstep.

Good luck and enjoy your toys.

My take on that is AP were being lazy and trying to look better than they are. They advanced the status of your package and gave you a misleading impression of where it was, rather than accurate tracking data.

Who, me, a cynic ???? No way!

SB800s are in short supply ...

hmmm ....

So too is the Canon flash, and there are rumours of a new Canon flash being released for PMA.

Perhaps Nikon have a new flash in the wings as well

Can you see the specials in the leftmost colum on the front page? IOW, having now read the FAQ, are you a member of our members' group?

A question I have, that may be somewhat related to discussions in this thread -

If you paid via Paypal with a credit card, does your CC vendor treat it as a purchase, or a cash advance?

I realise I may be better off asking my CC issuer directly, but maybe others have had experience and could shed some light on this...

On the flip side, what's to stop me from maxing out my CC by transferring it to my Paypal account, which in turn is linked back to my bank account, park the funds for 55 days in an interest bearing account, pay off the CC in time and reap the interest?!

Sorry, I'm over thinking things and this potential avenue of abuse; plus my interpretation of the terms and conditions tend to suggest Paypal transfers may be treated as a cash advance.

My experience with PAYPAL & my Visa card, is that it is treated as a purchase. PAYPAL request $x from my VISA, and in turn pay the provider.

I would hazard a guess that if you transfer funds from CC to PayPal without being linked to a purchase, it will be treated as a cash advance.
