Is this a good time for a D2xs purchase?

Postby iposiniditos on Thu Feb 08, 2007 11:47 am

Hello,

i'm about a month away of getting the full budget for a d2xs... Do you think that it is a right time of getting one of those beasts or do you think that there will be possibly a newer model soon? What would you do in a similar position?

Many thanks for your time in advance,
theodoros

There will always be new models just over the horizon but if you always wait, you wll end up with nothing. My thoughts have always been to go when you are ready

I have seen some discussion mentioning reductions in pricing of, I think it was, the D200.

With PMA just a month away, the timing may be sympathetic to an upgrade in this realm ...

Chi mentioned this (D200 drop) in another thread yesterday, probably the one your thinking of Gary.

Yes, twas spotted at ECS (can I mention names?). The D2Xs price drop happened about 6 weeks back, from $6.7k to $6k. The D200 from 2225 to 2095 IIRC. These are white market prices, grey would be substantially less.

I'm guessing it's hinting at newer models coming up - as traditionally it's been the only times Nikon has had price drops. But from a potential buyer's point of view, it's a great cost savings thing, if you're not up to chasing the newest releases....

Just FWIW, there currently is stock of the D200 and SB-800 - the flash was in short supply a week or so back.

No price reductions in HK, so possibly this is just an adjustment by NA due to the strength of the Pacific Peso?

If there's something new, no doubt the usual suspects will do their spejacultions in due course, and no doubt there will be leak from a Nikon site somewhere

Perhaps proce adjustment of D200 has happened because of the price of the S5 to be released... perhaps would have been too closely priced...
