PixSpot Problems

Postby Kristine on Sat Jan 29, 2005 3:39 am

Hi Everyone

I have received a few messages advising that some forum members have had a problem uploading pictures to PixSpot. I am looking into it as of now (12:30am Saturday Perth time – 3:30am Sydney time). I only just got home from a long day at work so I was not aware of the problems earlier.

I will hopefully have the problem resolved ASAP and apologies for any inconvenience.

Cheers

PixSpot Update

Postby Kristine on Sat Jan 29, 2005 6:53 am

I am working on the error below and will sort it out ASAP. If anyone receives an error message (other than what is below), please send me a copy of the message. If you don't send me the error message, it makes it really hard for me to sort out the problem! :?

Warning: opendir(): SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 506 is not allowed to access ./albums/edit owned by uid 48 in /home/virtual/site4/fst/var/www/html/upload.php on line 409

Warning: opendir(./albums/edit): failed to open dir: Success in /home/virtual/site4/fst/var/www/html/upload.php on line 409

Just to clarify a few points regarding uploading images that are not PixSpot related errors (some newer members have messaged previously).

Members have:

* 30mb storage
* 1mb allowance for each image
* Images should be in JPEG format

For the newer members: on average, any uploaded images should between 100-200kb (most of my images are around 100kb).

The server that PixSpot is on is a temporary solution until next week. PixSpot will be back on a high-end Dual Xeon server early next week, so you will notice an improvement.

Kristine - I am with Birddog comments.

You must be exhausted. There is a time for work and a time for rest, and rest is what you need now. PixSpot can wait until later today or tomorrow. We are appreciative of the 'free' service you provide, and at times we know that there will be a problem or too.

THE PROBLEMS IS FIXED! :-)

The problem was that the gallery software had created a directory, but failed to give the directory the correct attributes. This basically means that the directory was locked as it had been given the wrong permission.

While I was fixing this error, I fixed some other minor bugs on the site and I have also done some more work on the PixSpot integration into the D70users forum. So finally (after many setbacks), the integration into the forum should be finished by the end of the weekend.

Cheers

Kristine

This one's for Monday. Just went to upload and got this msg as soon as I got to the upload screen

Hi Kristine,

I uploaded one file and was very happy that your fix had been succesful. I then read Stubbsy's message and had another go. This was unsuccesful and the error message is below. Bottom line is I didn't break it, Stubbsy did! Feel free to give him a spanking next time you are in Newcastle.

Kristine, we are all thankful for your offer with Pixspot, don't kill youself to rush to get it fixed, at the price we pay a reasonable service is ok, we are not curing cancer here, just uploading a few images to the web for others to see. I am sure I speak for all when I say we are all grateful for this service and whatever timespan it takes to get bugs fixed. Thanks

Come, come Glen - the last time it went down was when you posted and this time it has gone down when you posted. I think you might have brought back a touch of Thai mystery

Cheers

Perhaps some Thai hot chili from Koh Samui and mixed with other special spicies which ruin Pixspot.

Sorry, you've got the blame!

Aside from the fact I might enjoy the spanking  I feel obliged to point out that just before I tried to upload a pic I was viewing pics in the following user gallery: http://www.pixspot.com/thumbnails.php?album=159. Far be it from me to name names, but maybe there's a connection :D :D :D

Stubbsy, is it your posts that have the imprint of someone a bit heavy handed with computers? I do admit there seems to be a common thread though to the problems

Heavy handed? I've work in IT for 20+years so I'm gentle as a lamb with computers since I know what temperamental #$$@$ they can be.

As an aside, and back on topic, I've just successfully uploaded to Pixspot so it seems to be working again.

Can I claim credit for fixing it :D
