Vosonic VP8360 transfer speed

Postby bloop on Tue Feb 13, 2007 12:27 pm

Sorry another thread regarding a PSD...

Anyway I've searched the net for this without luck so just wondering if any members owning one of these units could help me out. I'm tossing up between a Nexto Ultra and a VP8360, and am just wondering how fast the VP8360 can transfer from CF to HDD.

There's lots of info on the Nexto, not so much on the VP8360 although I've read somewhere it takes about 4-5 minutes. Could someone please confirm?

TIA

Hey Bloop,

The answer is it varies depending on the speed of the card, and also there seems to be some variation in 2gb worth of small jpegs, compare to 2gb of just RAW files. I'd say there is some overhead per file, so the large files (there less files per card) are a bit quicker.

My 40x CF card is slow, the PSD usually reports about 3.5-4mbps ish for a 2gb transfer. My 80x CF card is noticeably quicker at 4-6 mbps. Katie's SD card slow (but I think its the card again not the device, but its high 2 to mid 3s.
The battery life is good, and I'm never in a rush as I always have atleast 2 cards, so the overal speed has never been much of an issue, I usualy stick it back in my bag and keep shooting with the next card. I took over 1000s at the cricket the other week, shooting D200 Raws, copying in 2gb, 1gb, 2gb, 1gb combinations, and the battery didn't drop below half.
I then watched some movies and music on it on the way home.

Edit : I'm not suffering from a split personality, just didn't realise Katie had login in on my PC. Oops!   - Craig

Thanks for the reply Craig, it seems to be roughly 5 minutes/gb then. Are you able to view NEF's with it?
