News from CanonA new 1DMIII 10.1MP 10fps DSLR (APS-H) - Here
New 16-35 f2.8L USM II Lens - Here And the replacement to the 580EX the 580EX II - Here They are taking the 20th anniversary of the EOS seriously it would seem. Interesting to see that they are putting the live image to the LCD as well as the viewfinder, something I wouldn't have thought was warranted on a pro level sports oriented camera... Brett

some hi-res images, from back and with 16-35 attached.
45-point AF was introduced in the EOS 3 and 1v bodies, then refined through the 1D, 1Ds, 1D Mk.II, 1Ds Mk.II, 1D Mk.IIn. It's not something new.
The 45 or so sensors are all arranged in a matrix pattern right in the centre of the frame. It says the user has 19 selective points and the rest are from camera's control.
The D2s has only 11 sensor points, but they have the option to go on the edges of the frame and not restricted to near dead centre options. Then arguably, you can't compare both cameras. Lets wait for Nikon's response to that... D3H announcement with 10.2MP @ 8fps and HSC@11fps?
You are so right YiP - the Canon is a better camera for professionals and I’m a Nikon user

Shame that really. I want to be proved wrong - the better the competition the better for everyone. HB
This is the norm, in fact. I fear that Nikon's PMA announcements have already been made: they announced a whole new raft of PHDs a few days ago. Sigma have announced availability of their DSLR .... <yawn> g.

these guys are breaking my heart HB
Heath,
It comes back to what I said a couple of months back. Here we have a major international photographic event, and what, thus far, have we seen from Nikon? A few PHDs? And an upgrade to Capture ... Big bloody deal! I remain totally underwhelmed. g.

I'm pretty excited about the Canon news. They really have addressed all the misgivings I had about the 1-series cameras with this one. Finally their pro cameras get current-generation batteries! Sensor cleaning! Live view is useful, especially with a decent size LCD with proper zoom. Support for external storage out of the box is the greatest thing for me - one less reason to open the camera up when I'm in the bush. You can swap cards while the thing is writing! SDHC support so we can use our 16GB SD cards... no, wait, maybe SD will get with the program eventually. And the water-resistant flash! How cool is that! I just fear the size of the bill... camera will hopefully be about $6k from Poon, flash another $500 or so, then that wireless remote is looking really attractive... I should resist. Or maybe I should just start saving. http://www.moz.net.nz

it's new to me. didnt mean to make it sound like it was a brand new feature to the dSLR world.
But that's fantastic news for me! It means I can go shopping ... TODAY! WOO HOO! /me does a little dance !!!
Nikon announcements are usually when people don't expect them.
Just wait. The D2h is product-wise dead. There'll be an announcement on the horizon. They'd be foolish not to. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

That's a serious upgrade. It's not often I have upgrade lust but this time I feel a small twinge. However, it's USD$4k and no doubt there'll be a 40D or something which will have some of the features.
10fps would be fan-tas-tique. I'd be happy to keep it at 8mp though.
I don't expect to see 10fps in a consumer camera. Or even 8. In an SLR there's just too much involved in getting from 3-5fps to more than 8. I can't think of a single consumer-level camera that's ever done it (I used to use expensive motor drives for exactly this task). I would not be at all surprised to see them go straight from 5fps to 50 or 60, much as they do now. Simply because at some point SuperMegaUltraHighDefinitionTeleVision will have as many pixels as the average consumer wants, and at that point it's going to be simply a matter of digging out the occasional still from the video stream. Much as some people do now... even 640x480 is ok for a 6x4 print, which is all a lot of people want. http://www.moz.net.nz

'if' they upgrade the 30D to 40D i suspect it will simply be a jump in megamixels to match the 400D maybe the 3' screen like the MarkIII and the self cleaning rubbish and perhaps liveview i cant see them doing anything else.
Thats for sure if Nokon cant match the 1D mark III they(canon) wont be in as much of a hurrie to take it to the next level.
Hey guys,
Before I make these next comments lets make it quite clear I'm a Nikon user and always will be... (until I can justify loosing money and selling all my gear) BUT I was lucky enough to be able to see a 1D M111, F2.8 16-35 and a 580EX Series 2 and the new wireless system today, and my god Cannon have been busy! The stuff these 4 things can do is amazing. For starters the live view is great, and the LCD to view it on is MASSIVE. The rep mentioned that they are trying to get the camera passed for the next Olympics in China, because of the live view, they are having trouble with letting photographers being able to use it because theoretically, someone could attach a wireless transmitter, and download video to their laptop while "taking photos" and sell it, which is a major no no for sponsors. and being 30fps in live view mode, its quite possible (how crazy is that!) It can shoot 110 frames at 10 fps on high res raw. Enough with the camera because I could go on for years about it. The 580ex S2 looked good with a few things that Cannon needed to do, a synch cord connection has now been added, finally.. and it also has its own meter on the front. They also got rid of that bloody wheel to lock the flash off and replaxed it with a click similar to Nikons lock system. Specs here and there where better but I carnt remember the figures. Something that really amazed me was that the M111 combined with the wireless system became a portable ftp. All you have to do is connect the wireless system to the camera, connect it to a wireless network, give someone the ftp address and a password, and anyone over the world can log in and view thumbnail sizes of all the images you have taken. So if your shooting something for a client half way across the world, he can view what you have done before you even leave the shoot... not to mention the hole camera can be controlled by the wireless... even the focus. Only downfall to this was because cannon has changed so many things in this camera, (battery, AF screen, down to every little part like the eye piece) the product line is going to be very slow, so there is going to be massive ques of upto 6 months before you may even get your hands on one. So if anyone was looking at one of these go place an order soon. Camera also has a nice "quiet" feature that reduces the power to the shutter or along those lines, and makes the camera shutter noise extremely quiet! Ive really got to give it to cannon with this one, what they have done with this camera is amazing. Brett Last edited by Dprime on Mon Mar 12, 2007 9:30 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Wow, then I think the second hand prices for the 1D MkII would be cheap then!

Yeah thats what he quoted me, its because the new lens has 2 extra pieces of glass and has a 82mm front. Its being aimed at the new 1DS because it has better resolving power.
