boring or not?

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

boring or not?

I was going through some of my xmas holiday on the Gold Coast shots and came across this one. Just as I was about to delete I thought maybe this is a keeper after all.

Is it too dull to be a keeper?

You've found the lost city of Atlantis!

It's kind of surreal, a city out of the ocean, nothing spectacular, but I like it.

If yo split that image into water and sky-line layers, you could end up with a very dramatic shot after some PP on the skyline...

I don't mind it for a "cool" photo, but nothing i'd look at more than a couple of times. Mainly because I'd find the city interesting, and it's way too hazy and distant to be of interest.

Still a good effect though... 8)

My bizarre ideas:

I'straighten the horizon (picture is on an angle) and then look
into giving the sky some dramatic and artistic workover.

unfortunately I'm not that good at PP yet. I'll have to go to Birdy's workshop and learn how to dub in a new sky

Jonesy - nice pic, however I think the haze is the downside of this shot, which obviously there's nothing you can/could have done to prevent it. I would like to see this shot on a clearer day, it has a touch of surrealism to it which is it's strenght I think. Keep up the good work and keep on posting!

Geoff.

Jonesy - I keep looking and looking and the more I look the more I really like this shot.

I would keep it exactly as is but make duplicates and do a Andy Warhol on it - remember the Marilyn Monroe series

Do people actually delete their images?

I keep virtually every single one, even if it's absolute crap. Might come in handy, and serves as a record and reference.

I delete images.

When you have as many as I do... you learn what to keep and what not.

I think the image needs quite a bit of PS there... but it's interesting nonetheless.

I reckon with a bit of work it could be turned into a nice surreal shot of the skyline rising from the ocean. Maybe split the shot between the skyline and ocean and have a play with the ocean to match the hazyness of the top of the frame?
