POTW - 13 March 2007

Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

POTW - 13 March 2007

Postby stubbsy on Tue Mar 13, 2007 11:18 am

Choosing Picture Of The Week is never an easy task. In any given week there are hundreds of images posted and, no doubt like every other member here, there will be a significant percentage of those that appeal to me for aesthetic, artistic or just plain technical reasons.

This weeks image appeals to me for all three reasons. To start with it's a great image. It's well composed with the church steeple nicely framed by the trees and there's plenty of visual interest in the shot as well. It's also a great colour conversion too and the choice of this particular conversion works really well with the image. And finally gooseberry has also done a great job of nailing the exposure in the shot. The church is lit so we can see all the ornate detail in the stonework, yet the sky detail has been kept as well.

All in all a very well rounded image. Congratulations. The original post is HERE

EDIT: This was quite a hard choice too since I really liked BOTH images in the original post, but on balance I liked this one a touch more compositionally.

Great choice! I really liked both of these photos! I do think this one is the stronger of the two though!

Congrats on a POTW!

Great work and congrats Gooseberry. I did love the tone in the image. You've done really well to get it looking that good.

Well done Gooseberry on this fine shot, beautiful monochrome treatment, detail, the whole thing. Excellent. The other shot you posted in the thread was a corker too. Congratulations

Good choice Stubbsy.
